1st Trimester

1 st ultrasound pessimistic dr.

Hey all,

I had my first ultrasound today at 4 weeks 5 days. Lucky I knew that was early and decided to look up why I thought he would be asking me to come in so soon.

A little background. I am being seen by a RE for approx 10 months this baby is an absolute miracle. I was told there was NO chance of getting preg naturally and fell preg on a rest cycle during our Ivf cosult. Low Amh, high fsh, endometriosis and low motility. Lucky for us my body said otherwise thank you god !!!!

At 12 dpo-Wednesday June 17 my numbers were 28.9
9.5 prog

At 14 dpo-Friday June 19
80.5
24 prog

17 dpo- Monday June 22
Beta-388
Prog-21

I feel so very blessed to have been given a less then 2% miracle and have been praying all will go well. Today my dr requested another draw and first ultrasound for this morning . He walked in saying its early but since my original number was low he wanted to rule out an ectopic. How was I feeling? Besides the occasional menstral type cramp and twinges here I there I've been fine. I figured that going in. I saw what looked like the gestational sac and he said it "could" be. He gave me a picture and then asked to meet.

My DH was there. He said that things looked good but it was very early. Wanted to rule out ectopic but ultrasound and betas can't do that. (So why bring me in???)

Then tells me if I'm doubled over in pain to go to the nearest emergency room.

Is this common? Protocol? I haven't been able to stop thinking about it. Follow up ultrasound will be Monday if my results go well from beta. I'm waiting on those.

This journey I would not wish on anyone. I pray that everything will work out and that my dr just tends to air in the safe side.

Thank you for sharing your story.

  • Thanks. @sunrise135 I understand that. It's just difficult that's all. I appreciate your kind words. It's not in my hands anymore....

  • It seems like your doctor is more precocious than pessimistic. It's not like he's saying that something WILL go wrong, just making sure something isn't. Best of luck to you!

  • I have never had an ectopic, but I know they're usually identified between 5 and 8 weeks. I had moderate menstrual-like cramps from 4 to 7 weeks, every day. They weren't constant, but it was enough to make me worry. I went to the emergency room at 5 weeks and the nurse performed a physical exam. She said if it was ectopic I would be leaping off the couch in pain when she pressed on it, luckily I was fine. An ultrasound at 5+6 showed the gestational sac in the right place. Good luck and try not to worry, your doctor sounds a little over-cautious but that's better than one who doesn't care. And as ectopic are life-threatening they have to tick boxes to make sure they've done all they can for you.
  • Thanks ladies. I don't think I was expecting it. My husband didn't feel the same way. I know cramps are normal I can't wait to get a few more weeks to hear everything's ok.

My numbers went from 388 to 889 in 48 hours. Next blood and ultrasound on Monday. Hoping I'll be in the 1,000 by then. Dr was happy to hear my numbers are tripling. I'm sure he was just be thorough. Thanks xoxo

Hoping all continues to go well for you! I had my fingers crossed for you on the ttgp board. But I only lurked on that one:) Those numbers look great to me. Definitely doubling and cramping is very normal. I view it as a good sign and had it with all 3 of my pregnancies.
