Mummas with Breech Babies

Heya Ladies!!!

Anyone else with a breech bubba? My hospital are talking about a scan in 2 weeks when I'm 36/37 weeks to see if she's still breech.

If she is still breech they are considering an EVC or ECV to encourage her to flip...otherwise I'm looking at a c-section.

What's your story?

Re: Mummas with Breech Babies

  • Mine is breech as well. I have my recheck ultrasound on Friday to see if he has flipped. I am planning on declining the version as I don't like the risks. I would rather wait and see what he does or have a c section if needed.

  • My second baby was breech until I was 37.5 weeks, when he turned. I refused the referral to Ob/gyn at 36 weeks. Doctor talked about c-section if baby didn't turn. I refused to talk about it. Babies can turn when you go into labour, it happens frequently. Now I'm expecting my 3rd, also breech, again I will not talk about a scheduled c-section when there is a possiblity it will turn. I do all the exercises from spinning babies and the most successful postition I found was putting my feet up the wall and a pillow under my pelvis. I laid like that for 20 min, it also really helped with the swelling in my legs :)
  • I found out last Monday that my baby was breech. Since that time, I did a few of the exercises from spinningbabies.com, but honestly, most of them were REALLY uncomfortable for me to do. I have had a hard time breathing this entire pregnancy and most of them just compounded that issue. I am not a candidate for an ECV as my OB (who is a high risk doctor) considers them to be way too risky. I also have an anterior placenta, so there is no way I could even try it as the risks increase greatly.

So I have done the following:

    - I have gone to my acupuncturist who not only treated points with needles, but also did moxibustion which is something my husband and I can do at home and have continued to do for 7 days, 20 minutes a day.
    - I went to the chiropractor for the Webster technique last Thursday and will continue treatments two times a week until delivery.
    - I went swimming. I did somersaults, handstands, and dove under the water (not from a diving board!).
    - I sit on an exercise ball at work for at least 6 hours of my 8 hour day. Doing pelvic rotations, figure 8's, and making sure my posture is good.

I went into see my OB on Monday and she *thinks* the baby may have turned. I have a follow-up positional ultrasound tomorrow. My first was not breech at this point and I birthed him vaginally, so I am hoping I can do the same with this one.

    Good luck everyone!

  • I did the breech tilt.. It's weird, you may need help but she flipped. Or try some of the ideas on spinning babies .com.. When I did the tilt I put frozen corn up under my chest.. And I did this for a week, At night for 5-10 mins
  • My baby has been breech for weeks and weeks and weeks.  I have tried everything.  Moxa, chiro, pool hand stands, hot/cold, light tricks, inversion.  I have finally said screw it.  It was destroying my mental health.  I meet with the ob on Monday to discuss the scheduling of a c-section at 40 weeks.  Such a bummer as I have been planning a home birth.  My mom told me today that I flipped two days before my due date.  Hoping it's a family thing!  HA!
  • My little girl has been breech the entire time. I declined the ECV so we scheduled my c-section for July 6th. I had a vaginal birth with my first and I really didn't want to have a c-section but my gut told me to not do the ECV so I went with it.

Even though I'm not a fan of "scheduling" my daughters birthday.. it is what it is and I think everything happens for a reason.

  • I also did the spinning babies thing and I sit on an exercise ball as much as possible... That seemed to work for me. He has been head down for a couple of weeks now and looks like he is staying that way (hopefully)!
  • Mine is breech. The doctor says even if he flips my pelvis is just too small to give birth to him & I'll probably end up with a c-section no matter what. So, she'd rather me schedule it instead of laboring for several hours. He's just too big!!! And he's crammed in there, which is why she thinks he's not turning.

I can't believe your physician would tell you your pelvis is too small. Very petite women have delivered very large babies with no issues. I'd want a second opinion.

Yeah. I'm not sure how I feel about the ECV. I'd rather give it a go if it means I might be able to avoid a C-Section.

I don't like the risks attached but i do think that I want to give it a go. Not sure how this will sound...but if something goes wrong and I end up needing an emergency C-Section...I was gunna end up with one anyway if she doesn't turn.

I've tried a few of the techniques from spinning babies and bubba hates it when I try. She stops moving on me.

My second baby was breeched. I had ECV at 36/37 weeks and all went well. When I intially went in for ECV I freaked out and didn't go through with it, but after encouragement from my doula and just keeping calm and positive I had a successful ECV that took no more than 10-15 minutes and baby stayed head down. @41 weeks and 5 days I had a successful VBAC. I would definitely say being relaxed and having a postive mindset help me go through with it.

My baby has been breech since mid pregnancy; I'm now 36 weeks 2 days. I have a big baby so the doctor said I can, of course, try to deliver vaginally which I would like to if he does decide to flip. The chances of that are looking slim since he already has very little room to flip. I'm considered high risk due to preterm labor. Going into labor with a breech baby would be dangerous due to the fact that the umbilical cord can come out first. I have a c section scheduled because of this. Not doing EVC bc of the risks involved and not doing exercises. Going to let nature take it's course and if little guy wants to flip, he will ;).
