I was wondering as a FTM.. Right now I have lost most of any kind of energy that I did have in my second trimester. So I've been sleeping more and just laying around in general more. I know people tell you to get lots of rest now. But my question is,... Is that a good idea? Or should I try to wake up early now n slowly cut back on the hours I sleep now? So i get use to running on less sleep once my baby comes? Maybe if I try to get use to functioning on much less sleep, I won't be so...frazzled, stressed, freaked out etc.
Like I said I'm a FTM and I'm sure this could be a stupid question but I just had to ask and get some input from experienced mommas.
On a side note.. I'm almost 31 weeks and I'm soo excited n anxious, and can't get anything ready till my shower on July 11th. That I've just been trying to sleep to pass the time till the shower n delivery lol..
Re: FTM sleeping before the baby comes
Thanks for everyone's responses so far!
Rest now while you can!
You never know what kind of baby you'll have. Mine loved to sleep and would sleep five hour stretches at night if I would let her as a newborn (but you won't, unless on accident, because they must eat). I slept better once baby was born than I did at the end of pregnancy.
So I would say sleep all you can now, but don't completely lose hope that you'll ever sleep again.
Rest as much as you can now. But it won't make a difference when the baby comes...you will still be tired. You can only stockpile rest and sleep so much.
Yea, there's nothing that can prep you for that. Like PP's stated just relax and rest as much a possible.
You can't store sleep, but the less sleepy you head into this new stage of life, the better off you'll be!
It truly is different for everyone. I loved my sleep, and still do (when not pregnant) but for some reason waking up with a newborn wasn't so bad for me! I was so thrilled just to finally have him there, and it wasn't too long before I learned to feed 1/2 awake. Even though he had to feed every 4 or 5 hours, I'd nap in between feedings with him from 8 at night to 9 or 10 in the morning, so all in all it wasn't too much less sleep that I got before. This time I'll have a toddler running around all day, so it will likely hit me harder. Enjoy it as much as you can, and remember that the days/nights are long, but the weeks are fast. The baby stage is really SO SO short!
