Disney at 8 Weeks, with the WHOLE Fam

Hey ladies,
My in-laws (parents, kids, grandkids--everyone 19 of us) planned a trip to Disney and started months ago. We're going in July when we will be 8 weeks along. I am looking for a few different tips. A. How do I keep the secret of being pregnant from that many people with the random rides I can't go on for a week. and B. Well, if you have gone to Disney World early, what are your tips for getting through down there?

Thanks :)

Re: Disney at 8 Weeks, with the WHOLE Fam

  • I'm not too much help but we are going first of July and I will be about 10 weeks. I plan on riding most of the rides at magic kingdom bc they aren't really intense. I jiggle more from running! Lol. I'm more concerned with the heat!

  • First off, it's gonna be super hot. It's been 95-97 for about 2 weeks now and no signs of letting up. Drink lots of water. There are lots of fountains around the parks so if you come in with a water bottle you can fill it back up for free. I normally love our summer weather but I'm miserable at 7 weeks. Try to find ac when you can (most shops and restaurants have ac).

As for rides, if there are any small kids that won't be able to ride you could offer to stay with them. Maybe fake an illness that makes you dizzy so you can't go on the roller coasters? Luckily there is still a lot you can do without being jerked around too much. Also check with your doctor and see her opinion there might be a lot more you can go on than you think.

  • I think you're fine to go on most rides (I think that isn't limited until 2nd or 3rd tri as the baby is too small). I'd call your doc and ask about that.

As PPs said, I'd be more worried about the heat and dehydration.

  • Just came back from WDW last week, I was about 6.5-7 weeks. It was TOUGH. But with that being said, I usually go in the Fall and end of Winter, so the weather is much more tolerable. The heat was just too much for me. As stated above, lots of water and lots of rest. As for the rides, I could basically get on anything except the "thrill" rides (coasters, Mission: Space, Test Track) I did avoid Star Tours (my fav! -_-). This is definitely a great time (and excuse) to stop and "smell the roses". As for hiding it, I would definitely go the whole "this heat is killing me" route, it would be believable! Also from PP, if you have small children with you, use it! If you are staying on property, I would suggest afternoon naps.

I hope you have a great time!
  • To be honest, I would just tell the family. It would be too hard to hide it for an entire week, so people will start to get suspicious. Pro tip, if you go to any concession stand in Disney and ask for a cup of ice water they will give it to you. The water fountain water down there tastes terrible, so I did that I lot the last time I was pregnant in Disney.

  • I would just tell them and make it easier on yourself. I live in Florida and it's hot as anything right now. When I'm pregnant I have an even harder time with the heat. Stay hydrated!!! Most of the rides there are perfectly fine when pregnant. Magic Kingdom is catered more toward younger kids.

  • We just went to Disney in April. Although I wasn't pregnant at the time, I had to read all of the ride signs to check to see if DD was tall/old enough to ride. Most of ALL of the Disney rides are clearly marked if they are safe for pregnancy. Of course, stay off of rides that are clearly marked unsafe. When we went a few years back, my sister in law was early in her pregnancy. She was able to ride a lot but stayed away from all of the thrill rides. Get on what you can and have fun. The big thing you need to focus on is keeping yourself hydrated like all the others have said. Just as a tip, all of the "quick service" meal locations in the park will give you FREE ice water. Just walk up to the counter and ask them for a cup. The best one's to go to are the one's with fountain machines in the restaurant. Drink your water you are given then fill up with PowerAde. You could think of a way to reveal to all of them that you are pregnant while at Disney. Maybe do it the first day to make them all in the loop and then they won't question you when you don't get on a ride. Pinterest has a lot of cute Disney idea's for revealing your pregnancy. One idea I love is getting a pair of baby Mickey ears and have them embroidered with "Baby and your last name" or " Coming Feb 2016". Have your and hubbys pic taken in front of the castle or with Mickey. The best Mickey is in the Magic Kingdom's Town Square Theatre. He is in a private room and just your party will enter at one time. You and hubby could secretly go in alone or you could take the entire party. If you take the entire party try to inform the photographer what you are doing and then say "Everyone say CHEESE" "Everyone say Mickey" Everyone say I'm PREGNANT" I feel sure any Disney cast member will help you with a great reveal!
  • I'm going to Disney this weekend! Very excited! I'm going to only Epcot though.
I would recommend getting the refillable souvenir cup when you first get into the park. It allows free refills all day and as hydrated as you need to be, it's worth it. You'll end up spending a fortune if you buy your drinks separately.
If you really don't want to reveal your pregnancy yet, maybe you could be "afraid" of some of the rides and some others be "dizzy" like PPs said. (IMO though, Disney would be a very magical place to reveal an addition to your family though I understand why some people wait)

  • We are going to Disney later this summer so I have already looked up what I can and cannot ride. Here is a good list for you: https://www.buildabettermousetrip.com/pregnant-at-disney-world/

I would consider revealing to family on the trip that you are pregnant. Or maybe just offer to stay with the younger kids and help out. This could keep you on the "friendlier" rides and away from the thrill stuff---and maybe even score you an opportunity to lay down and take a nap or at least kick your feet up in the afternoon.

I already have lower expectations of how much we may or may not be able to do this time in Disney with being pregnant and having 2.5 year old DS with us. My plan is to stay hydrated, take it slow and just enjoy our time there. Hope you have fun!

  • I'm going to Disney to with my family in October! I'll be 5 months! Can't wait! :) Have so much fun! Although the rides for me are definitely out but at least the food and wine festival will be going on in October so that will be a plus!
  • I would go on a ride that is safe for pregnant women, and then claim that you got motion sickness and use that excuse not to ride any other non-safe rides. I don't know if your family drinks a lot, but an empty vodka bottle filled with water saved me having to tell anyone that I was pregnant last weekend. At dinner just claim that you are too dehydrated to drink any alcoholic beverages. And if you guys are outside drinking, hold a beer in a koozie and when no one is looking dump little bits of it out into the grass. No one questions that you are fake drinking with a beer! Wow! I have done a lot of lying for this baby! ;)
