Bottomless Pit!!

Lately (especially during this 6th week) I feel too nauseous to eat anything other than pretzels all day...but then around dinner the queasiness gives way to the most insatiable hunger...last night I ate 2 orders of chicken select tenders from McDs and was still starving so I stole my husband's McDouble too!!!!! And I mostly seem to crave carbs carbs carbs when I'm able to eat...I never eat like that!!! I'm trying to just go with it and eat while I'm hungry since I can't eat during the day, but I'm nervous about getting proper nutrition for the baby (but then again the little bugger is the reason I feel this way, so maybe it deserves some fatty food in return, haha). Anybody have the same thing happen? Do you give in? Do you force feed yourself a more balanced meal? Sigh. Can't wait to feel human again!!!

  • That's me. i hardly eat during the day and when I get home I'm ready for a full dinner. Then I eat nothing again for the rest of the day, lol.

  • Its common by the sounds of it. I'm 8 weeks and for the past 2.5 weeks ive been nauseous and only can eat carbs. I agree that I worry about the lack of nutrition but Id just say eating anything is better then nothing. I tried snacking on carrots and celery and an apple but it doesn't help. Are you able to keep your prenatals down? If so at least theres the vitamins baby needs.. But for me the nausea is subsiding but I still just want carbs. Its difficult but apparently second trimester you feel normal again! Cant wait! Good luck!!
  • @cali1710 I actually haven't vomited yet, which is why I've been listening to my body and eating what sounds good in the moment, because I'd like to keep it that way and I know eating a salad when I feel this way will set me off, it's like a constant hangover! That said, I've therefore been able to get in my prenatal every day, so hopefully that's enough nutrition until this part of the pregnancy passes and veggies sound appealing again.

  • Same here! The thought of vegetables is nauseating (normally I love them!) Carb everything is all I can do right now. I do make a fruit smoothie with hidden kale to get a little nutrition in there.
  • @vintagevice oh, true, I've been able to stomach a smoothie in the afternoon, next time I'll try hiding some veggies in it!

  • Oh man, I've been pigging out lately. I just have no willpower. I need to get myself in check. I did so well last pregnancy -- I ate healthy and gained a very normal amount of weight. But I know you typically get bigger anyway with the second pregnancy and if I keep this up I'm going to be HUGE.

  • I cant stop eating and if i dont eat i feel constantly neasueous ! Yest i felt i better start being healthy so had healthier food and walked on treadmill and that was the first day i actually vomited! Today i was comforted by mcdonalds, meat pie and pasta carbanara ! So bad !
  • Yes I am right there with you. When I go to the grocery store I walk through the produce department and pick up anything that doesn't sound disgusting right now and I go with it. That way I have healthy things in the house for my never-ending snack pit. It's so hard at this point though, some days I will eat whatever baby wants because it's either that or eat nothing--which is obviously not an option.
  • Please tell me that I am not the only one that has woken up in the middle of the night so hungry!?!?! Like I need to eat right now type hungry! I am 10 weeks, 6 Days.

I eat pretty well throughout the day-especially breakfast/lunch/snacks. Dinner has been a little bit harder because nothing sounds good and my stomach is usually not feeling so good...but I still manage to stomach a small plate of something. Then around 3am...the hunger pains. This happen to anyone else?
  • I'm having the hardest time avoiding junk food. Seriously.

Chick fil a for breakfast. Mexican for dinner. I feel so unhealthy.

I just had a donut and an iced coffee. I had a salad last night for dinner so it balances out, right? ;) I've also been eating mac and cheese here and there. So far Panera and Wawa were the best. My SO can't eat sugar or carbs or he gets really sick and so I basically give into these cravings when he's not around. Some days I feel like I can't stop eating which scares me. I had gastro sleeve surgery a year and a half ago so I'm trying to acknowledge the cravings but in isolated opportunities because I don't want to start gaining weight too early, too quickly. Fortunately some of my carb cravings have been honey nut Cheerios and raisin bread so it's not super bad. I was so excited to actually crave the salad last night.
  • I still have yet to gain an ounce, so I'm continuing to give into my basically all-carb diet (I feel like Mean Girls haha) as long as it means I keep eating and keep food down. I just had chocolate milk and strawberries for breakfast, so I think I deserve mac and cheese for lunch now, right? ;)

Last night I was so ravenous for carbs, I ate 3 lunch - box bags of chips in under 2 hours and couldn't stop eating until finally I was so tired I fell asleep, still craving more. Sigh.

  • With my first I was on a all carb diet the first 13 weeks. With baby number I seem to crave only carbs again.
Your cravings for food will change 2nd trimester. Hopefully to something fun!!!
  • mommachanner I'm with you on the hunger pains! I woke up last night because I was starving. You are not alone! The first few weeks I was really keep my diet in check but it's all been out the window the last couple weeks. I figure it will be ok as long as I shape up soon...

  • I was the same way around week 7-9 and then the morning sickness kicked in HARD. I can only stomach sandwiches and smoothies right now at week 12-13
  • @claireloSC YES, ditto to everything you said! DH is out of town, so I'm definitely eating more McDs than I would if he were home, lol, but that said I text him saying I reallllly want it and he does tell me to just go eat it, haha. The first 2 weeks after finding out I was pregnant I ate SO healthily, making sure to hit all the food groups in every single meal and get in those healthy fats etc, and then the nausea and lack of appetite hit for a week or two followed by an extreme appetite but only for carbs this past week or two. Everybody says the appetite comes back in the 2nd semester, so I'm just going to eat my chips and smoothies (fruit is the only halfway healthy thing I want to eat) until that happens, c'est la vie.

  • I asked about this at the doctor today.. they said eat a small meal every 2 hrs. 6 small meals with snacks!
  • I just ate...again. It was like dinner part 2. I feel like I have two parts to every meal!
  • @meredithfharris that's all good in theory but it doesn't work when 5 seconds after eating your small meal you're still so hungry you start to feel nauseous, lol

  • Food aversion has been great, except it's not until I put it in my mouth that my body goes 'ok that's disgusting and not happening'. I had lost 77lbs before pregnancy, eating tons of salads and veggies and now all those recipes I loved are AWFUL.
  • If it's meats, I eats. Oh, and more cheese please. I can't eat too much or I feel sick, but I graze all day. I was not prepared to be this hungry this early. I'm hungry right now! 8w4d
  • I've been craving carbs, carbs and more carbs lately plus a mixture of junk food. My doctor told me at my six week morning sickness call to eat whatever I could even if that means ice cream for dinner
  • @paigeyferd I'm also 8w4d today and I literally had ice cream and pickles for dinner, no shame for being so stereotypical, haha. I'm starving again, and there is a bag of chips with my name on it...f*&# it, there's no way I'm not eating it hahahaha

I've completely reverted to the diet I had at the age of 7. Pasta, pizza, ice cream, cookies, fruit-by-the-foot, gummy candy, aversion of anything green, sugary drinks.

I ate a few forkfulls of spinach last night. I was so proud! I had to completely drench it in lemon juice to make it palatable.
  • Iv been a vegetarian for 8 years now all the sudden I want McDonald's like are you kidding me.. wth I don't know what to do I will go against all my morals and reasonings behind being a veg.. salad is the LAST thing I want or veggies at all, bring on pizza Popsicles and pasta.. and suddenly mcdonalds!
  • Yeah I have been carbing out. I think somehow it absorbs all the bad stuff in our tummies. I was feeling better so yesterday I made a delicious roasted garlic and cauliflower soup. Today it made me feel so sick. I also took some frozen mangos, pineapple. A can of apricots and lots of ice in the blender. It was delicious
  • All I crave are carbs too! Does anyone know why this happens? Why is it carbs, in particular? I will eat something healthy and that doesn't do anything for me until I have those carbs. My husband was asking and I didn't know. My excuse was it's what the babies want lol but I need something more than that lol.

  • @CaraBoonie Yes! Makes sense since we are only one day apart in terms of how far along we are. DW comes home tomorrow so hopefully she can cook me something healthy that's palatable, or it's chips etc for me.
