Pacifier

I used to only use a pacifier with my 6week old if we were out in town and he woke early from a nap or sometimes during his fussy period in the evening. We've been staying with my MIL for the past week and she shoves that thing in his face every chance she gets... I finally had to tell her to stop it because he's now latching to my nipple the same way he would the pacifier at the beginning of a feed (ouch) and now he won't go to sleep with out it :(:( how long do you think it will take me to reverse this and how often do you use a pacifier? (if at all?)

    I use pacifier if baby is upset and tired and has been changed, fed, and swaddled. Also I use a pacifier if baby is full after breastfeeding and wants to continue to suck.

    That is so frustrating. My mil at times doesn't listen to me about what is best for my baby and tries to do her own thing as well. I started having that problem where my son was latching terribly after sucking on the pacifier or a bottle. It sucks but I wait until his mouth is open wide enough or I just have him re-latch until he is latched right... We have to do a bottle in the morning and evening because of his reflux. The only way he will take the medicine is if it's mixed with some of my breastmilk-bottle-spare-parts.

    I use a pacifier for my LO when she is fussy and cant seem to settle when its time for her naps. She usually sucks until she is content and spits it out. I think going back to what you were doing before you introduced him to the pacifier will work. It might take baby a week or so to get back used to things but it should work.

    I breastfeed and use the pacifier. I only use it when baby is fussy. It hasn't caused any issues with latching. You can always cut the pacifier out and just allow baby to use you anytime he needs to suck whether to feed or for comfort. Good luck!

    Thanks ladies, we are back to only using it while out and then if he gets fussy at night! So frustrating when someone messes with your system though!!
