I'm currently still under my mother's work insurance (I'm under 25). However, I'm getting married a month before I'm due. What do I do about insurance?
Marriage counts as a life changing event, just call HR for your husbands job and they can add you on there. Then call them again when the babies born. Just remember his premiums will increase both times so keep that in mind when you are budgeting your expenses. You can also get insurance cost information from HR.
The health care reform act allows you to stay on your parents insurance until you reach age 26 whether you are married or single or have access to your own coverage. They will not be able to cover the baby however.
If your mom's insurance is better than what you or your husband have access to, then I would stay on your mom's if she is ok with it. You will need to add the baby to your husbands when he/she is born or find other coverage through the marketplace or medicaid if eligible.
I feel it is strange for a married women to try and stay on her parents insurance. You're married and having a child. I would get on your husbands. If he doesn't have any and doesn't have a job that offers it then I feel you should get private health insurance or find a job with benefits. If you truly can't afford it then there are programs out there to help. Remember that they will take yours and your husbands insurance into consideration when doing this.
