BFP on expired pregnancy test!

Hi ladies! I am am from the ttc side of life, but thought I should get advice from ladies who are recently pregnant! (Congratulations!!) my DH and I have been ttc for about 7/8 months now, and took a test this morning, and got a very (very!) faint positive. I picked up the empty box to throw away and saw that the test expired in January!

Re: BFP on expired pregnancy test!

  • The rest of my post disappeared! Anyway, just trying to find out iF any of you took an expired test and the result was accurate? We live in Africa, so it is going to take me a few days to get another couple of tests! Freaking out, but I know that there's a huge possibility that it was a false positive, so will wait to tell my husband! Thanks in advance for any advice!

  • I suggest waiting and taking another test the next morning you can.
You can also Google the particular brand see what it says about the test being expired, see what that has to say about it all.

  • I took a test that had been expired for 2 years (leftover from DS) and it showed a positive.  Obviously buy another test, though!

  • I would take another test to be sure but I would think it's fine. If anything it may show a false negative, not false positive.

  • Thanks everyone! I took another test the next day which was a BFN. It is now a week later and my boobs are so unbelievably sore!! They are normally a little uncomfortable with AF, but this is actual pain, not discomfort. I winced when I hugged my hubby this morning. Will start testing again everyday, hopefully I'll get a bfp soon!!!
  • The Wondfos I had lying around had been expired for over a year, and when one showed a very faint positive (outside of the time limits, no less), I picked up an FRER - which was clearly positive within the time limits. Your expired test may have been more sensitive, so it just make take a few more days to get a positive on a less sensitive test, assuming you are pregnant.

  • I've had a false + on an expired test. I wouldn't trust it.
  • Took a test this pm, and I swear I can see a faint line! Showed my hubby and he said he can't see anything, that my mind could be playing tricks on me. Will try again in the am, hopefully there is a line and it's dark enough to see properly!! Ttcing for 9 months now, so ready to see a BFP!
  • Well don't waste tests at night. Always use first morning's urine unless you can hold your bladder for 4 hours.
I know it's hard to wait with all the excitement it entails but patience will help you in the end. 9 months of waiting and then a constantly crying baby requires patience.

  • Got a very faint positive that my hubby even saw this morning!! So excited!!!!!!!
  • Get a digital if possible. I also was ttc for 9 mos and got my BFP earlier this month. I had a very faint positive on one test and held my bladder for 6 hrs (had to nap to do so) and took a digital which came back positive as well. If possible get the one that tells how far along, mostly because it's cool to know and gives you a more clear positive in my opinion. First morning urine is always most accurate.

Fyi...the "weeks estimator" is notoriously inaccurate. I'd estimate based on LMP unless you're temping and know your ovulation date.
  • I would love to get digital tests, but I live in a city in Africa and they don't sell digital ones and USA/UK won't post here! Just have to do with regular tests
