Postpartum Tearing

sorry if this is tmi. I bled for nine weeks postpartum. And after that I was bleeding annaly (don't know if that's actually a word) so I went to see my OB as I thought it might be haemorrhoids. She said because of hormones and such from post birth and BF'ing the anal tissue is softened and easy to tear. She recommended a steroid I could take while BF'ing to heal the anal fissures and recommended the usual to avoid constipation, which I did, but even with a large bm it would re tear and it hurts like crazy!! I'm now four months postpartum and it still keeps retearing. I'm taking a stool softener and drinking tons of water and eating lots of fruit and fibre, and again, my bms are soft but large enough to continue to reopen the tears. Has this happened to anyone???

    This happened to me too! I had a 3+ tear and about 4-5 weeks after delivery needed to have surgery to completely redo all of the stitching- which really sucked. After this, at my follow-up appointment my doctor let me know that I still wasn't healing crrectly due to reopening the tears. My baby was over 9lbs and 21 inches- and I am not a tall girl. I went to see a pelvic floor specialist (who knew these existed) and they have helped a lot. I am using an estrogen cream twice weekly (safe for breastfeeding at this dose) and taking Epsom salt baths daily. Though the baths take up more time than I have it has all really helped! My doctor thought I would need surger again, but now it's not looking that way, though I will find out for sure mid July. Good luck with everything. I went through lots of pain and setbacks continuously. I was just cleared 2 weeks ago to workout again and I had my son at the end on January. Best wishes and maybe consider seeing a specialist.

    I don't have exactly your issue but I have been seeing a physical therapist who specializes in pelvic dysfunction and it has been helping. It's very hard to find information on these types of complications. Good luck!
