Potato salad?

Hey all, my husband and I are having a BBQ tonight and I bought some potato salad from the grocery store without thinking - is this considered an "unsafe" food for pregnant women? I know that deli meats, soft cheeses, etc. are a no-no but I wasn't sure about already prepared salads, coleslaws, etc. It came in a pre-packaged tub, not from the deli counter itself, if that makes a difference. Thanks!

  • If it's refrigerated is fine. If it had been sitting outside all day I wouldn't eat it... just like anything else.

    I'm sorry, I couldn't resist!

  • I eat deli meat when pregnant. And it is really hard to find non-pasteurized soft cheese.  And if I liked potato salad (yuck), I would eat that when pregnant too.

You are knocked up, not broken. Those "rules" were for the 'risk" of listeria, which is a food born illness. You are more likely to get that from cantaloupe and package salads, yet those are not off the 'list". Just get your deli meat from a reputable place.

*and no, I did not heat it up. Hot meat is yucky.
    Thank God for Raid.

  • FWIW I ate deli meat too. I'd just tried to be an smarter about where it was from, if it was old, or had been sitting out.

  • Dirty lurker.
