tmi post- hemmroids

I'm 40+3. I currently have hemmroids and they aren't huge but painful. I've done everything I can think of to relieve them, but nothing is working. My big fear is going into labor & further pain by pushing on them. Does anyone have any remedies that may help. Did anyone have hemmroids in their labors? Is their anything they can give you in the hospital to relieve hemmroids so I don't have to push with them.

Re: tmi post- hemmroids

  • I had hemmheroids during most of third trimester and was also worried about them for labor. Taking baths helped me when pregnant, but they never went away fully (though mine weren't uncomfortable, just always there).

Childbirth itself didn't seem to make them worse, but the first several post partum bowel movements did. That said, I'm now just over 2 weeks post partum and they are either completely gone, or so small I'm not noticing them. Wiping with medicated wipes or wet wipes felt soothing, and I've seen a lot of people recommend Tucks pads or witch hazel - though baths were always sufficient for me, personally.

    Good luck!

  • I've been wiping with witch hazel cotton pads after using the bathroom, it is helping, I've also changed my diet, I no longer eat grains. So i dont have to push so hard. I've been taking garlic to help the inflammation go down, but it's not working as fast as I'd like before I go into labor. I haven't tried baths, I will try that today. This is the worst part of pregnancy for sure.
  • Coming from someone who lived the hemmroid nightmare several times over during multiple pregnancies and PP, I would say that doing everything you can to prevent them from getting out of control is key!!! I had to have surgery on mine they got so bad and this was during my last pregnancy so they offered me no pain relief when they cut them. It was the worst! I ended up having to have corrective surgery after which. No fun :(

My Key tips: 1. Tucks after EVERY time you go no matter what (I even keep some in my purse) 2. Cool sits baths with sea salt (hot baths for me made them worse) 3. High fiber diet (carrots work wonders for me and are easy to snack on throughout the day) 3. Be gentle! If you irritate the area they are more likely to inflame. Skipping TP and using wet wipes instead can be easier on you. 4. If I get one that flares up, I use the preperation H cooling gel to easy the pain and assist with calming it down.

I have only had one that flared up this time around for just a couple days with being proactive in my self care. I hope this is helpful. And hope you have no issues with them from labor.
  • I did not have them until post-partum, but my doc prescribed a suppository and a hydrocortisone cream 2.5x stronger than Preparation H.
