Do You Know Anything About These Apartments in Pittsburgh?

Hi, Moms!

I'm originally from Pittsburgh. Now my husband and I are potentially moving back after 12 years away, and we're super excited. We have a 6-month-old. Ultimately we want to buy a house in the burbs, but we need some time to look around, so for now we intend to rent an apartment in/close to the city. Before we head off to the suburbs for good, we're looking forward to just a little more time in an area that's good for some walking, close to shops, restaurants, etc. We're looking into some of these places:
- Heinz Lofts
- Morgan at North Shore
- Gateway at Summerset

If you know anything about these places that you think we should know, please share! Do you know someone who lives there (or live there yourself)? Are they good places to live, particularly with a baby? Are they safe? Any complaints/worries about them?

Thanks for your input.

  • I lived in the Heinz Lofts with H before we were married.  They're SUPER pricey (a two bedroom was going to cost us more than $1500/month and that didn't include two parking spaces in the garage) but we really enjoyed our time living there.  The garage is a little insane (you likely will hit your car at some point!) and it could be really far away from your apartment, depending on where you go (we were right behind the main lobby on the first floor and it took over 5 minutes to walk to the garage).  They had lots of little community events/parties and the cafe there is awesome.  You can walk to the Strip or anything downtown (although the Morgan is closer to downtown).  The North Shore Trail is really nice to walk on, but there are a lot of homeless people that live on it so avoid at night (sometimes they get aggressive).

  • Hubby and I are seeking our home to move to the city. Morgan I think is the most expensive of the three, we haven't visited the property. Heinz is our number one pick so far. If you have 2 cars parking for the second car is an additional fee. Great amenities though including an infinity pool. Gateway doesn't offer covered parking so they're a last resort.

Depending on when you'll be working Heinz and Morgan are more centrally located downtown. Gateway being in Homestead is a great location especially if you want to hang out at the Waterfront.

  • My friend used to live at Morgan. They were very nice and it has a pool and gated parking. The whole complex always seemed pretty secure to me.
  • I currently live in the cork factory , I chose this because I have pets not sure if that's an issue for you.
