I have a 4.5 wk old and he last ate at 1030am. He is pretty unpredictable with his sleeping/eating schedule so at 1230 I decided to pump (my supply is good but I'm building my stash) then at 130 he needed to eat and he kept unlatching and fussing (usually not an issue!) and even after 45 minutes he still signaled he was hungry and we gave him a bottle. He doesn't typically cluster feed til evening. Did I pump my supply "dry" or did I switch him to the other breast too soon? Now he feeds til he's almost passed out and I can switch him. Should I just pump after a feeding to completely drain my supply or when I miss a feeding? It's hard to know when he'll wake up so I like to pump when I can. Or am I messing up my supply by not just feeding on demand and interfering with pumping? Agh! Any input is appreciated!
Re: Pumping and breastfeeding supply question
I know everyone says not to wake a sleeping baby, but I wake my baby to eat. I have low supply so I pump exclusively at the moment. I have a strict pumping schedule and wake her to eat when I pump. I'm starting to reintroduce breastfeeding, so I also wake her to do this if she isn't awake already so I'm breastfeeding before I pump and not after.
