when baby is born plans...

I can't handle body fluids, especially boys. When I had my son 13 years ago I explained this to my nurse. This time around I'm planning the same thing, once baby is born clean her up before giving her to me. Sounds horrible but it is worth it to allow me to be relaxed and calm when I met my daughter.

Anyone else have 'strange/unique' plans?

  • Loading the player...
  • I'm lurking... But I agree I don't like the idea of having the baby and all the fluids all over me. I can't imagine that being something i embrace.
  • Lol I'm complete opposite, I want her right on top of me the second she comes out; I did the same with my son I didn't feel strange I loved it actually! And I kiss baby right away lol

But I was scared when I had to change the first diaper (weird right?) Its that first black plastic looking poop... I asked nurse to help, I might be more okay with it now because because I was 17 back then

I remember my nurses asking me if I wanted to have the baby cleaned off first and being a ftm, I was like yeah why wouldn't I. Well I guess my doctor didn't get the memo and put the baby on me right away. I wasn't even mad tho. It was really great, and I'm glad he did :)
  • Ha, I guess my unique plan is just the opposite of yours.  We actually declined baby's first bath all together, with our second and will this time as well.

  • @sschwege what do you mean declined baby's first bath? That was done a day later for both my kids. Wondering if I'm thinking of something different.
  • With our first they did it about 2 hours after birth, we hadn't even been moved to postpartum yet.  Just the bath they give baby in the hospital, we let them know we would bathe DS ourselves when we got home and will do the same with this baby.

This might sound gross I guess but After 24 hours of labor with my first.. I was in so much pain (no epidural) and what I tell everyone was the best experience about giving birth was the feeling of them pulling him right out and laying him on top of my right away. All the fluids were so warm it was so comforting. Plus having my newborn baby on me. I would never want to loose that experience. When I thought that was the best part.
I had the exact same experience, particularly with my second because they did not put a baby blanket down on me.  They just put him right on my bare chest.  Everyone is different, but pure instincts just take over and I can think of nothing else but reaching for my baby.
  • Honestly I was so excited to see him I don't even remember whether they cleaned him off or not! Haha! I just remember his sweet little face and warmth, ok now I can't wait for his sister : )
  • With my first I had them give her to me right away on my chest to bond. She was so warm. It was an amazing feeling. And I'm a clean freak. I can't wait to meet this little guy.
  • Do you guys know the benefits of NOT bathing baby.... https://eco18.com/dont-wash-newborn/
  • I don't even remember if they gave me a choice for him to be washed up before I held him.  Didn't know that they even offered that choice.  Even with that in mind, I will probably hold my baby as soon as I am able to.  It didn't bother me too much at all with my first.  It was nice to hold my little personal accomplishment.
  • They can go right ahead and clean baby up if they want to, I won't complain!

My first was put directly on me and promptly pooped all over me. I think the midwife cleaned that up but she nursed and we bonded a while before she and I got into a huge tea bath the midwife prepared and I got to bath her for the first time. My husband had more problem with all the fluid. He had to leave the room. He thought I had just lost massive amounts of blood and got a bit freaked out. Hopefully he'll be a bit more prepared this time.
  • Pooped on you?! Oh my! Now that, I hadn't even considered! Guess I better get ready for the joys of mommyhood!
  • Ive only had water births so I don't really know what to expect for a 'dry land' birth. I know about the poop though, I've seen pics and know it can get messy but I think after pushing and being in pain it won't matter to me, only time will tell :)
