Coming home outfit?

I hope this hasn't been asked....my first was born in December so of course we brought him home in a warm and fuzzy outfit. I have no idea what to to bring our little girl home in. I know the hospital and car ride will be cool so I don't want to freeze her. Anyone have any recommendations for me? Cute tank with shorts? Light dress? Or something warmer?

Re: Coming home outfit?

  • I'm doing a short sleeve dress and have a blanket packed if needed.
  • Loading the player...
  • I'm going with a onesie, hat, and socks. We'll have a light blanket for her on the car ride home (I'll be in the back seat with her the whole way).

  • Thanks ladies! Makes me feel more comfortable with the outfits I picked :)
  • I have done 3 babies in july/august heat. The first i did a vintage sleep sack style outift and quickly realized how this didnt work with the car seat. The twins went home in light weight long sleeve sleepers and this baby i have a short sleeve onsize with coordinating pants. Even if its 90 outside baby will be comfy!

I was thinking the same thing!  I washed all of her newborn - 3 month clothes over the weekend and laid out many outfits.  My husband and I quickly decided on a onesie (we were thinking of going with long sleeved with the little hand mittens built in) socks and a cute little hat...or headband.  At first I was thinking we needed to put her in something like a real "homecoming" dress (LOL!) but then we decided that we have plenty of time to dress her all up and that we want her to come home in something ready to chill and relax in.   ;)
  • I live in Florida where the heat is unbearable so I'm bringing my LO in a onesie with a hat, sucks and mittens. Also taking a thin blanket for the car ride home. Can't wait to have him in my arms!
  • I'm putting mine in my husband's vintage Feltman Brothers day gown. I'm bringing a pretty blanket to wrap him in just in case it's cool in the Hosp/car. But it's super hot/humid where I live. I'll also put him in a bonnet & crochet booties.
  • I feel like packing 10 outfits. I am just afraid they won't fit! This baby feels huge and aj have no idea what size to bring. What if the outfit I bring won't go on?
  • My little girl will be coming home on 4th of July so I went to JoAnns today and bought all the stuff to make a beautiful head band and I bought her two cute festive onsies today and have cute socks to go with it! I can't wait for her to be here! I changed my baby boy like six times at hospital before finding perfect outfit to bring him home in! All of your outfits sound perfect all of you ladies!
  • I had a 9.5 pound baby for my first and he fit newborn clothes...only for a week or so but they fit..lol
  • My little girl is coming home in a Feltman brothers lacey pink dress with lace socks and shoes and I plan to bring a blanket for the car ride in case she is cool!
  • Take newborn and 0-3 you can't go wrong I had to end up using the 0-3 but that's only because he ended up being 10.8 lbs at 38 weeks hopefully this one is a bit smaller
  • Our little girl will be coming home in the feltman brothers dress I came home from the hospital in. We have a blanket for car ride home just in case. I really need to buy socks.
  • My sister in law bought us a cute little newborn dress that I think we will take her home in. It isn't super frilly or anything so it should still be fairly comfortable. I have a mother outfit that is 0-3 in case the newborn dress is too small. I need to get some socks though.

I am also unsure on what size to bring. So I am bringing a newborn option, and a 0 to 3 month option… That should cover it no matter how big or small he is
  • With my oldest two, they were born nov/dec.. I live in Florida, so it wasn't cold enough for something wintery. We do get really cold weather sometimes, but just so happened when they came home it was very nice out! My oldest I had all ready for cold weather, (fuzzy thick blanket, fuzzy hat and ect.. But a short sleeve dress. Worked out perfectly. My youngest, short sleeve cotton dress, and same idea.. Warm blankie. This baby i have one of those dress onesies that has a cute thin jacket type thing to go over. Socks, mittens and hat (all cotton) and a knit shawl type thing. Which will come off when we get in the car, and I'll just cover her with a blanket to keep the ac off her.. My car has ice cold ac.. But my moms ac barely works.. So if they use her car.. It may be hot for her so I won't cover her... I'm not sure.. I hope it's not to hot.. And if I feel hot and keep her uncovered, will she be cold? Smh... I have 2 weeks left and starting to second guess everything!!
  • with my first, I came home in 100 degree heat (I live in AZ) - I think I just wore a nursing tank top and very loose lounge pants.  Plan on doing the same since it will be 115+ when I deliver next month.

DS wore a snappy tee shirt and a diaper, DD will most likely wear the same

  • My girls were 10 pounds 3 oz and 9 pounds 12 oz and fit into newborn clothes
  • Just remember...baby won't be able to regulate their own body temperature quite yet. Comfort is key here. DD came home in a short sleeve onesie, matching footed pants and a little cotton cap, plus a lightweight blanket. DS will wear the same!
First came love, then came marriage - Oct 31, 09
Then came a miscarriage March '11
Then came a baby in the baby carriage May 16, 12

Waiting on our second little peanut!

  • FTM here but we bought a long sleeve footed onesie with a matching hat from Target. I plan to also bring some leggings and and short sleeve onesie just in case it seems too hot.
  • My little boy was 7lbs exactly and fit with extra room in the premie onsies and a cap with some little socks. My girl will be smaller dr says but I can't find a cute premie outfit for the 4th so she has 2 newborn outfits we will choose from. They are slightly smaller than the 0-3 month.
  • My son was 7lbs 8oz and the newborn clothes were to small, my parents ran out and bought a few 0-3 months outfits. I'm bringing both this time around. I live in Canada so even though I'm having him June 30th you never know what the temperature is going to be like lol I'm bringing some short sleeve and some long sleeve onesies, pants, a hat, socks and a blanket.
