High-Risk Pregnancy

should I try again?

I gave birth last September to a 3lb baby boy ♡
I was diagnosed around 29 weeks with severely preeclampsia. I was hospitalized for 3 weeks, induced at 3 weeks & after birth was diagnosed with hypothyroidism & crohnes disease.
I'm wondering how others would take this situation when deciding on another baby. I'm planning on talking to my ob but am curious to hear from others who may have the same issues

Re: should I try again?

  • I had a 29 wker due to a unicornuate uterus- 3lbs 11oz at birth (vaginal delivery). He was big for his gestational age due to me having GD. I am currently on my last month of bc pills and will be prepping from July-November for #2. We are planning preconception visits in September and will start trying at the recommended 18 month minimum which is November.

Having a preemie is traumatic. His nicu stay was 76 days and involved a surgery but in all honesty I would do it all again. He is my world and I can't see myself not having another. Hopefully next time I get further along or get to 37 wks. 37 would be lovely haha.

Although our reasons for having early babies might differ, I know how you feel. I think you need to be mentally ready and if you are questioning things you might not be there yet. Some couples are one and done. Others can't have more than one and some quit after a trauma. Maybe in a few months your thoughts will be more definitive. Just give yourself healing time and everything will happen as it should. Best of luck!
