Horrible migraine

So last night I started having a migraine around like 5pm and it lasted all night on and off to this morning. I'm sure I was alittle dehydrated but still felt sick after drinking water and resting and trying to nap and go to bed.also couldn't stop throwing up. I know this is all normal but is there anything I can do or take to get rid of the migraine? Anyone have this?

Re: Horrible migraine

  • I'm prone to migraines even not pregnant, and they get worse when I am. For me, I drink some water and then something caffeinated. If that doesn't work, I sit up on my bathroom counter, put my head down with an ice pack (or frozen veggies) on the back of my neck, and submerge my hands and feet into the sink filled with warm water, and sit for about 10-15 minutes. It's an old trick my grandma taught me years ago. I would also suggest getting one of those gel masks that you keep in the fridge. Laying down with one of those on in a quiet room helps a little.

  • Thanks so much!!
  • I had a terrible headache a few nights ago. You can take Tylenol, which sometimes helps, but I use an essential oil mix of peppermint, menthol, eucalyptus, & camphor and rub it on my neck (base of skull) and temples (just peppermint works pretty good too). I also slept with an icepack on the back of my head/neck and that worked!
  • Experienced my first migraine, too. I've never really had them before. On Friday night, I couldn't shake it. I just went to bed defeated. Made sure everything was off and the room was cool. I think it would be nice to have one of those gel masks. I'll most likely pick one up. I've heard about the sink trick. I'm not big into taking anything like Tylenol. I just drink disgusting amounts of water when I have a headache normally, and it does the trick. I'm hoping the migraines are few and far between for all of us.
  • Ditto all the above! A PP mentioned the oils which work fabulously, but if you don't have those on hand vicks vapor rub or similar does the trick. I rub it on my temples, under my eyes, forehead, anywhere! Your eyes will water but that honestly helps some too! Another weird trick is to mix a couple ounces of lemon juice with a pinch of himalayan sea salt and drink it. Absolutely disgusting but provides almost instant relief in my experiences! Good luck, migraines are horrendous!!
  • Aside from acetaminophen, my doctor suggested taking extra B6 during the day (I take an extra 100mg pill with my prenatal vitamin) to stave off nausea and it has sort of helped with the headaches, but I have also been plagued with a pretty chronic headache for weeks. Some of the advice in here looks pretty sound. Otherwise, I'd bring it up at your next appointment. See where your blood pressure is at.

    They could prescribe you something.

Hope it all lets up soon!

  • I've dealt with 3-4 migraines a week since I was 10 (blind, excruciating pain, can't feel my limbs... really exciting migraines). Thankfully, when I started taking my prenatal a few months ago they stopped. After trying 20+ medications it was weird to have a vitamin do the trick. That being said, when they were at the worst, sometimes I would have to eat something, drink a lot of water, and just take a sleeping pill so I was knocked out for a fee hours. That usually reset everything.
