Love/Hate Items...For Fun

I thought this would be fun since a lot of us have had our LO. What are some of the items that you can't live without for your LO ? Also what did you buy and wish you didn't waste your money on?

My can't live without item is the baby brezza. Yes I broke down and bought the keriug for babies once my twins needed to supplement. Let me tell you, that thing is AWESOME! It brews the ounces you want and to the perfect temperature in a snap. If anyone is contemplating buying one it is worth the money!

I feel like I wasted my money on our twin bassinet. Our twins slept in it for 2 nights until they drove us bonkers in our room and we moved them to their cribs!

I love the halo swaddle sack combination and muslin swaddle blankets! Also the car seat carrier (graco snug rider elite) is so perfect for use when I need to run in somewhere quick and don't want to lug a heavy seat or big stroller.

I have not been using my co sleeper because LO has been happy in the bassinet which I prefer she use anyway!

  • I love my swaddle sacks too! The hospital gifted those to us when we left :)
  • With my first I absolutely loved our swing bc she loved it so much it was really a life savor and with this one I think I am going to be loving our graco ready to grow double stroller <3 I am excited to use it but we will see how it works out! I have yet to see if it fits in my trunk

I love the 4moms Mamaroo. Yes it costs a small fortune but that thing has paid for itself in the meltdowns we have avoided. Plus if you just need to put your child down for a bit to do things around the house or to give yourself a break, the Mamaroo is there for you (as I am sure most swings are). He's in it right now.

@jjvanwagner25 what is this keurig thing you mentioned in the beginning? I'm curious.

ETA I looked it up, it looks pretty cool. Almost like a keurig machine for formula
  • Love: Boppie, cloth diaper burp cloths, Moses bassinet. Also Kickee Pants brand anything - these are the world's softest clothes!!

    Don't need: mittens, swaddlers
  • Love: boppy, Dr Browns bottles, rock n play, nose Frieda nasal aspirator

Didn't need/like: soothie pacifiers, Avent bottles, pack n play

Our mittens have actually been a lifesaver! LO was born with super long, sharp nails, and the nurses told us we shouldn't cut them until she was 2 weeks old. I was using the mittens pretty sporadically at first, but then one day about a week after LO was born I watched her stick her finger UNDER HER EYELID. I totally freaked out. Everything was fine, but seriously, what would I have done if she'd scratched her eyeball?! So after that, mittens are on 24/7. She hates them, but she's just going to have to deal with them for a while. She turned 2 weeks on Monday so we have trimmed them but since she still doesn't have control of her hands I'm playing it safe and keeping them on.

    Yeah life saver!
  • Love - auto rock n play, Dr. Brown's bottles, Boppy, Honest co. Diapers, cloth diaper burp cloths, babies r us multi Use pads (we have them stashed all over the house to use to change her on)

Not needed - baby socks (ha), changing pad, diaper genie, so many clothes - LO is still in newborn at 6 weeks (born at 36wk) but she still hasn't worn all of her newborn clothes. I didn't buy a single newborn outfit. We also have enough 0-3 mo clothes to clothe a baby army.
  • Love: Carters layette blankets - better than any swaddle! The rock and play. (Keeps her slightly upright and reduces spit up, I think).

Not needed: I wish I had waited to buy all the breastfeeding supplies, not knowing it wasn't going to work out for me. Some stuff I can return, but some I had already opened.

I don't love the wider bottles (Avent, Dr Brown: I feel like it's hard to get the last ounce out of them and I'm wasting formula and dude it's not cheap!) I prefer the Medela bottles right now.

I actually love our pack n play with the infant sleeper and changing table. It's constantly in use. Also love the glider. Oh, and the feeding tracker app.

The only thing I can think of that we don't use (so far) is the mittens. And the white noise player - I use it but don't really think it matters. Yet...his fussy phase could still be coming. LO doesn't really like his swing much yet and isn't much into pacifiers, but there is still time

He settles her in her home as a happy mother of children, praise the Lord! (Psalms 113:9)

  • Hate the mamaroo, aka the "scream machine". Love my Beco Gemini carrier and the bassinet style stroller we use in the house to roll LO from place to place while he naps. Also Honest Company Healing Balm and Green Mountain Diaper prefolds, both for diaper and absorbing leaks during middle of the night feeds.

I second the newborn clothing, we were in 0-3 basically from day one due to length. We also had a ton of swaddles from DS1 and this one hates to be swaddled.

  • Love: Rock n Play, Dr Brown's bottles, Ubbi diaper pail, and I am convinced her Halo Sleepsack Swaddle is the key to her fuss-free 3-5 hr sleep stretches. Also, her Wubbanub pacifier - we only give this to her in the car, but it's great because the normal Soothies would fall out so easily and with this the animal on the end helps her balance and sometimes put the pacifier back in her mouth all on her own.

Could do without: Tommee Tippy and Avent bottles - just not compatible with our LO. Boon Collapsible Tub - love that it's collapsible/hangable but hard to get it to stay in the angled position. I feel like I'm holding LO awkwardly the whole time.
  • Love our rock and play sleeper and the receiving blankets I stole from the hospital(they are bigger and thicker), we use them for burp cloths.

The mamaroo is pretty pointless, DD doesn't cry in it but it's nothing special for us either.
  • Parents with the Rock and Plays... When I look online there are several models at different price points. Is there any reason to get one other than the base model?? Any of the extra features worth the extra money?

We have the cheapest model. All it has that's special is the vibration. I don't feel like we are missing out on anything. When DD was a baby 4 years ago it didn't even have the vibration and it was still a lifesaver. Best product ever. It's my go to gift for baby showers too. Even if they aren't registered for it that's what I buy for people.
  • We have the base model and don't even use the vibration mode. It's really just another place for LO to snooze... But it's her favorite and we'd be dead without it!

    Love:
    Snuggabunny
    K'tan baby carrier
Nuroo- Perfect for kangaroo care! I used it while LO was in the NICU and it's great as a hands free carrier at home. I got it on sale so even though it's only going to be used for a short period of time, it's worth it.
Imagine and Softbum diaper covers-Sizing works well for my preemie and I like that it's adjustable.
    Halo Sleepsack
    Muslin blankets
    Kissaluv flannel/velour wipes
    Burpy bib

    Could do without:
Preemie clothes- These lasted only a week or two. I could've just used newborn.
Glider- I don't use it much. I'm glad it was a hand me down so at least we saved money.

Love/Hate: Spectra S2 pump. It's a really great pump but I hate pumping sometimes.

I have to add that we LOVE our snug a puppy swing.. It provides long naps and is super soothing for LO plus the music is really soothing for the rest of the family too!

We have a Graco swing that doubles as a bouncy seat & DH & I joke that the music on it lulls us to sleep before it does LO. Haha.
  • I forgot an item, the Dr. Browns formula pitcher. Works great for mixing our hard to mix formula and it's easy to clean.
  • I love this thread :)

Love: Rock n Play, Dr Browns bottles, Medela Nipple Shield ( saved our EBF relationship), Chicco pack n play (awesome sturdy changing pad and we hope to get LO sleeping in there soon), Dr Smiths diaper rash ointment, cloth diaper burp cloths (was a great nesting project), Muslin blankets, everything Earth Mama Angel Baby for postpartum

Could do without: Socks, mittens, breast pads (I bought tons and am not leaking at all, at least now), baby nail clippers (don't do it! My hubby tried to be helpful...)

    Love/Hate: Boppy, Pump

The mommaroo is hit or miss with our LO, overall since my sis bought it for us used and just replaced the cover, I think it is definitely worth it.
  • I can't live without halo sleep sacks, or the rock and play. I also couldn't live without my changing table. It has saved my back.

I wish I wouldn't have bothered with the baby breeza. I love the concept, but it did not work properly for us. One bottle would be nearly all water with no formula and the next would be way too much formula with half the amount of water. We lost confidence and returned it really quick.
  • Rock and play is great. I also love the summer swaddles ( the ones that Velcro closed). My husband hates seeing him in them but LO loves it at night. He sleeps 4-5 hours at two weeks. Last night I slept on the couch because of beck issues so my hubby put LO to sleep without the swaddle and he was up 3 times more than usual. I can look to see the actual name of the swaddles if needed. I have a ten year old stepson so I bought the boppy cover for nursing and it has been great! So much better than using a blanket or cover and I can feed LO while we are all hanging out and watching tv. Love it.

Love: boppy lounger, tommee tippee bottles, my pump (lifesaver), the medela steam
Cleaning bag, honest diapers, LO loves her car seat and car rides too lol.

Love not so much: bassinet, rock a roo, socks, honest wipes.
  • Love: Muslin blankets, love love love them, super lightweight and perfect for swaddling

Keekaroo peanut changing pad, I debated for a long time whether or not this changing pad was worth the extra money. I ended up getting it and I'm so glad I did, as many times as DD has pooped and peed in the middle of a diaper change, I'm glad I can just wipe it up and avoid the extra laundry

Mittens, I've filed down her nails many times now but for some reason they're still razor sharp. I've been able to avoid many scratches to the face because of them

Blooming bath flower, makes bath time super easy and she's actually starting to enjoy it!

    Dislikes:
Wipe warmer, 2 weeks old and never been used, DD doesn't scream that much during diaper changes and I'm afraid of spoiling her with warm wipes at home if it doesn't bother her that much

Nursing cover, wish I would have waited to buy this since it will never be used, breastfeeding didn't go as planned and I'm exclusively pumping and supplementing when needed

Mamaroo, I wanted to love this item but so far it hasn't been any help when DD is fussy. She only likes it if she's already calm and half asleep. There's always time for her to grow to love it but as expensive as this item was I kind of wish I went with the swing instead

    Love:
Rock n play - we have the one that self rocks for 6 hours and plays sounds and she loves it. Definitely a life saver.

Baby ktan- another lifesaver, not schlepping around my car seat carrier.

Pack n play - she sleeps in it every night

Medline wipes - our hospital uses these and we bought a huge box on Amazon..after I smelled the chemicals in the baby wipes I couldn't use them on her bottom. We just keep theses wet and in a regular wipe box and they're awesome.

Diaper genie- most people hate this but I love it. Makes it compact and easy to take out the diapers.

4moms tub: it's definitely challenging with her as a slippery newborn, but the fact that it reads the temperature (I would've scalded her without a doubt) and that you can drain dirty water and refill without moving her is AWESOME!

    Could do without:

Mamaroo- doesn't calm her down, only good if she's already calm.

Boppy- hate this thing with a firey passion. Doesn't stay around me and sucks at supporting her. Wish I would've gone with the my breast friend.

Mittens: never wore them, returned. Most of her onesies came with hand covers
TTC: 1/2014 BFP: 9/24 EDD: 6/8/2015 Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.
  • @taraperez04 ooo now I want one of those Keekaroo Peanut changing pads! it doesn't irritate baby's skin to lay on/pee on it without a cover?
  • No I haven't had a problem with it irritating her skin but I wipe and clean it almost immediately after any blowouts, definitely worth the extra money! @virginiaunicorn11
  • Love: Cannot say enough about my love for Halo sleep sacks and giant muslin blankets (ours are Zutano). Halo sleep sacks with swaddle because LO loves to suck on his hand (he has a real love for the right arm, he needs it by his face or he flips out) and the little sleeveless dress under the velcro swaddle part allows us to leave that hand up for him. the giant muslin blankets for swaddle because he came out a chunker and has been having trouble getting swaddled in the hospital ones. They have been lifesavers for our hospital time.

Dislike: summer infant swaddle pods. Don't allow for the aforementioned hand loving. He is not having it. We may try a larger size later if he loses the hand love, but the little tiny ones we have won't do it for him.

It's only been two days, but the high i currently feel because LO only got up once after midnight and had to be woken to eat at 5am led me to express my deep love for these products immediately.
  • Love: Aden and Anais blankets. First baby that I splurged and I will be buying more. They are perfect for swaddling but also nice and light to loosely cover myself while nursing in public.
He is my third so by this time around, I basically figured out what was a waste of money. We were very minimal this time around so I don't think there is anything that we have thought a waste of money this time around.

Oooh I just figured out LO loves vibration. I thought he liked the elevation of the rock n play but its the vibrating feature. When he was fussy I put him down in the pack n play and turned on the vibrator (there's no way to not make that sound sexual!) but he loved it. So, after a quick google search I found this: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Munchkin-Lulla-Vibe-Vibrating-Mattress-Pad/23258645

We have been trying to get LO acclimated to the crib at night and this did the trick!! Im going to cross post this on two other threads. I hope it helps others.
