Tylenol plus codeine

has anyone else been prescribed Tylenol plus codeine after delivery and are breast feeding? I have been taking it, and now that I have read about it online I'm worried about my baby getting toxicity.

I took both. If the hospital gave it to you, I'm sure it's okay. They wouldn't perscribe you something that would harm LO...

  • I asked them if it was okay and they said it was. I guess I just need to stay off the internet lol! I'm a FTM and a worry wart!
  • I just wouldn't recommend take it for long. All opiates are addictive and the withdrawal symptoms are horrible.
  • The constipation is awesome :( I take fioricet with codeine for my migraines which has Tylenol and codeine in it and you have to watch for constipation. I took miralax to avoid it.
  • I started with that & it wasn't strong enough. Doc then prescribed Percoset. Didn't realize the Percoset & Motrin 800 were causing so much constipation. Ugh. Colace is NOT cutting it. Do you think Miralax works better @klkonwi ? I have some of that & haven't tried it yet.
  • I dont know if they'll give it to me this time around but I had it in the hospital with my first. I only took it a couple of times though because I didnt want the baby getting too much of it. I was told its safe to take tho, but like you I was a big worry wort!

Miralax is way better. It's gentle. It works by the next day. @krystleshel colace really doesn't do much!!!
  • I have only taken it twice. I had a c-section so I need something. I will probably just stick to Tylenol!

Yes I took it and left with a prescription for it... Currently back in hospital for infection and taking Percocet ... Doctor said it does pass through but considered safe while nursing for short term use.
  • Lurking from July. I was prescribed Tylenol with codeine for migraines. Doc told me it is safe to take while pregnant since my liver does the filtering, but I shouldn't take it while BFing. The babies liver isn't developed enough yet to filter that much acetaminophen. Not saying this is the gospel truth, just what my OB told me. I would just double check with your doc and tell him/her what you have read online.
