Diaper Bags

Anyone start thinking about this yet? Any recommendations from stm's? I am having twins so need a lot of space in my bag.

So I'm a STM as well. I'm not having twins though so my opinion might not help..
With my first we got a set that had the big bag, a small bag, a bottle carrier and a changing mat.
I ended up using the smaller bag a lot more than the actual diaper bag.
So this time I wanted something smaller, and not so bulky.

Well the hubby and I were looking at diaper bags at Burlington and ended up finding one we really liked.
It had a built in wipe container on the side, so it saved space and was easy to get to when changing diapers. Had enough room for everything, without being over the top. Plus DH said he wouldn't mind being seen carrying that style over the more girly ones.
The brand was "jeep". Who knew they made diaper bags?

I for one, can not wait to go back and purchase the bag.

I loved my Petunia Pickle Bottom... The boxy backpack. So much room! I kind of thought it was "dorky" wearing it as a backpack, I used it cross body style at first... But once I did use it like a backpack...omg! So nice having it out of the way. This time around, I am planning on buying a smaller version for day to day use then using the boxy for bigger events. I just never needed all that much stuff with my son.

Honestly, I would just get a big traveling backpack (Ogio is my favorite brand) and get your own supplies for travel - wipes case, changing pad, insulated bottle carrier and warmer, et cetera. I managed to get a great deal on a huge Ogio backpack that's worth $110 on market for only $1 because of a tiny defect. I'm using that as a diaper bag instead of buying one.

I'm not suggesting splurging for a $100+ backpack, but I'd definitely look around at bags that are not sold specifically as diaper bags because you will find that a lot of it unnecessary or that you can use just as easily in any other bag. It can save you money, hassle and time! Plus, backpacks of any kind can be such savers on the back and quick to whip around when you have multiples. Plus, travel backpacks usually consist of many pockets and slips to hold numerous things for on the go. Just the way a parent wants!

I don't have twins on the way, but I have two boys under the age of five with a new baby due in January. So being quick and easy to handle is what I'm looking for!

I have a Vera Bradley backpack. It's not a "diaper bag", just a regular backpack. I love it. Plenty of room for everything and lots of pockets to keep it organized. And for me, having both hands and shoulders free is a must.

My friend who had her baby in January got a JuJube diaper bag that can be carried as a backpack and has a TON of space. She raves about it and I am thinking I will get one too. They are a little spendy, but seem to be worth it!

We have a cross-body style diaper bag, kind of like a messenger bag. It has tons of space and lots of pockets for keeping things organized. Also, since it's cross-body, it keeps your hands free and doesn't feel as heavy as carrying a bag on one shoulder. My husband also doesn't mind carrying it since it isn't girly looking.

I have a Petunia Pickle Bottom, city carryall, and I love it. It's lasted almost 2 years and still in great condition. I will most likely get a new one when baby arrives, because it will be almost 3 years old at the time. I love it because it has a waxy cover so when it gets wet it just rolls right off so it still looks new. Plus tons of storage!!!

I may buy a petunia pickle bottom backpack. I never really have bought a good one with my two previous kids so I may spurlge on this one. I love the idea of a backpack.

With my second, I got a JuJuBe and I'll use it for this baby as well. I LOVE it. Spacious, lots of pockets, anti microbial interior and it's cute. I found mine NWT on eBay for about 40% less than retail, since they are kind of pricey.

I HATE diaper bags, personally. I'll be doing what my best friend has done for years now: get a makeup bag for the essentials, and stow everything else in the car. Diapers, travel wipes, rash cream, and a disposable pad will all fit in a small makeup bag (even an extra outfit will when they're little). Then multiples and other stuff like breastfeeding cover will all go in the car. Mind you this only works for shopping trips or out with friends or to the park. If we were going to Disneyland or somewhere where we'd need snacks for everyone and sunscreen and other supplies, I'd just go with my jansport backpack.

My advice is don't spend too much. It gets covered in so much food and crud and is dragged around everywhere. Get something with lots of room that you think will hold up.

Someone gave my husband the Diaper Dude bag, and we actually both use it the most with our two LO's.

I'm a FTM looking into diaper bags myself. I've decided to go with a backpack myself.
I've babysat before and I've tried carrying the baby car seat, my purse, plus the bulky diaper bag -- it was a mess. So I figure a backpack bag would be less uncomfortable to carry everything.

I had the Boxy Backpack as well and another plus that hasn't been mentioned is it's great if you plan on traveling by plane! I liked it because it fit under the seat and didn't expand so I had to keep what I packed narrowed down. But I am an overpacker so that might not matter to some people!

Also the stroller straps were great as well!

With DS, we chose one that DH would be comfortable wearing at first, and he never ever uses or carries it. I'm always with DS so it was never necessary. I eventually just bought a backpack style purse I liked from Kohls and its worked well with us so far.

Now that we'll have a toddler and baby to carry stuff for, I'm trying to talk DH into getting me a Petunia Pickle Bottoms boxy diaper bag. I've only heard good things from people who have them.

Oh and some of the Petunia bags are made from a material that wipes clean, so thats nice.

@bkc92 they are. It's like a wax cover. I've had mine for almost two years and it still looks new. With all the milk, mud and rain this thing as seen its amazing. I just take a baby wipe and clean it off and it's like new again. I love it! Plus there are so many designs and styles. I don't like the back pack look so I got the city carryall.

@jem8407 DH was very vocal about not wanting all the things we buy to be too girly. Even the style and color of stroller we picked out. Which is fine with me.
As for the diaper bag, we are always taking forever in stores and such when we go out because we live in a busy town. So having the side wipe container and extra room is nice.
I'm sorry, I'm just so in love with the idea of the wipe container being on the side for easy use. It's genius.

I am a FTM so i have no personal suggestion. My SIL started with a traditional diaper bag with her first and then switched to big purses and totes. she did not have twins though

I have a Vera Bradley diaper bag and I'm not a fan. There are barely any pockets, no compartments. It's very open and spacious but everything just gets thrown in and it's hard to find things when you need them. It's also completely cloth. Great for when it needs washing but horrible for when things spill and you're out. Also, after using it for one baby the straps are falling apart and it's totally faded but it's still usable just doesn't look so pretty anymore. If we have the funds for this one I may try to get a new one.

I have a Coach baby bag it has held up great after 2 years of use and one of my favorite purchases. In the begining I didnt carry my purse much so I wanted something purse like. Ppl say don't spend a ton on it because it will get dirty etc. I think if you are not a naturally dirty person the bag will not get dirty. I carried plastic bags for dirty clothes, spoons etc I never just threw dirty stuff in my bag milk never leaked etc but I am not a normally junky person. I also have a petunia pickle backpack but I loved my coach bag way more than that one.

I actually had a super cute, diaper bag that matches except it sucked! I ended up getting an inexpensive plain black Carter's brand one with lots of pockets. It held everything and was easy to clean. Just don't settle. And Twins means re packing it more often. So exciting:)

I spent lots of time researching diaper bags last preg and that was not a necessity at all but was fun to do while pregnant. Ended up with a boxy ppb and two Vera Bradley's. I like the Vera Bradley one the best cuz it's light, has comfy straps to put over my shoulder and is machine washable. The boxy ppb is a bit heavy for me and the straps not comfortable for me. Also hangs backwards a bit when I wear it as a backpack. The other really light one I had seen was the le sport sac one.
