Nipple cream suggestions please

I'm approaching my 3rd delivery and had horrible experiences with cracks and pain nursing my first two. I know there is going to be pain but I want to get your suggestions on what creams you used to begin with as I'm dreading that feeling again. I used lanolin the first two times...only positive was not needing to wipe off. Please share your favorites!

Re: Nipple cream suggestions please

  • I use coconut oil! A benefit is it prevents thrush (lanolin feeds yeast)

  • Earth mama angel baby. I like it because it's not sticky like lanolin.
  • I liked the honest company nipple butter, it's not thick like lanolin, so it's easier to put on, organic, and food grade, so no need to wipe off. I haven't had any issues with cracking or bleeding, but it helped with sensitivity in the beginning when I was getting used to breastfeeding.
  • I use neosporin, after a bout of mastitis. I've heard rave reviews for APNO (all purpose nipple ointment, which soothes, fights fungus and bacteria) -- I plan to ask my doctor for a prescription when I go for my six week check up.
  • Coconut oil, hands down. Felt better than lanolin and is cheaper.

  • APNO cream allowed me to bf DS1 for a year. I bled and was cracked the first two weeks (it literally felt like razor blades). I healed up pretty quick. I haven't needed anything with DS2 (he's 8 months now). Good luck
