Delivered Mommas, how are the fur babies responding?

Just wanted to see how everyone's fur babies are handling the new edition? I have to say this has been the most challenging part since coming home from hospital. Our Siberian is very curious, and wants to be in babies face all the time (to lick and sniff but still stressful) we are trying to allow him to be, but creating boundaries as well. He has always slept in bed with us, and the first night we locked him out of room and he cried at the door all night. Last night he did great though, slept in bed and didn't bother baby (except once to try and steal pacifier). How are your fur babies dealing?

Our 3 fur babies are just curious - they like to sniff baby. They know not to touch her though. Baby sleeps next to my side of the bed in her pack n play and they have never attempted to get in there. One of the dogs loves to lay right next to the pack n play and watch baby - it's adorable.

We have a german shepard puppy. He's only 10 weeks old so it's been challenging. He's getting protective of the kids. He is wherever the baby is all of the time and has started getting that way with my older DD too. He's not aggressive to anyone but he gets rambunctious and under foot. I really can't complain though he's doing pretty well for being a baby himself.

Our lab isn't that interested in him. She will lick him here and there but that's about it. She's very playful so we are trying to teach her not to bring toys around the baby, she plays rough. Our boxer is very motherly. If I don't get to him right away when he starts crying she comes and finds me. We gave him a real bath for the first time last night and she was in the bathroom watching us the entire time. So, overall I think they are doing pretty well for the most part.

I really can't tell. He's curious and spends a lot of time sniffing her stuff and sometimes her, but he's also incredibly skiddish and jumpy all of the sudden which he never was before. She started squeaking really loudly into a scream as I lifted her and he jumped towards her on the couch, and I had to stiff arm him.

I really can't make heads or tails of it. He doesn't seem aggressive, he's never had an aggressive moment, but I'm weary of anything he does with her because he's so jumpy all of the sudden.

Im not a "delivered" momma.. But interesting topic.. I am SO CURIOUS how this step will go when our time comes. I have three dogs and they're more family than most of my biological family. My little ones are where i am ..at all times.. And very protective. Also co-sleeping dogs. Luckily, we thought ahead, and transitioned our large breed to sleep next to the bed on his own bed months ago. No worries about him squishing our lil guy.

Im nervous but confident they will just love their new little brother

Our dog is completely blind (and I think a little deaf) and he's still figuring it out. He walks by his mamaroo and licks DS toes! It's cute. He wags his tail like crazy when he locates the baby.

No baby yet, but I hope our boxer is like that too. I can see him being that way. He follows me around everywhere now and does great when we leave out the baby toys. He knows not to touch them.

Sadly, we gave our cocker spaniel to my mother. They needed each other and both seem happier now. She was a dog that needed to be "an only child" and my mom needed someone to care for. She became aggressive the last few weeks and bit my husband. Now, she's back to her calm self. She even plays with toys again.

Our dogs like to lick but that's more because of milk, otherwise they aren't too interested. They seem calm with the changes and don't mind the crying. The DH does take them for a walk daily for some time to themselves and exercise

My 7 (yes. 7.) are all pretty interested. Some are particularly fond of laying at the foot of the bouncer and staring at her; basically 2 body guards. None seem to mind, and in fact they seem to get antsy when she cries. They find me and dance around a little.

Even more amazing? LO doesn't mind them at all. All 7 barked and howled and yelled at the door when the Fed Ex guy came banging on the door yesterday (I was ready to throttle him) and she didn't even wake. She almost never wakes from the dogs, even if they knock into the bouncer, and even when she does, it never leads to crying or fussing. She goes right back to sleep. I got SO lucky :x

My girl (golden retriever) has been wonderful. She is so excited about him but still really gentle. She goes up and gives him a single kiss on the forehead and then backs away. I'm so proud of her.

The four kitties are mostly ignoring him. Lol. Which is totally fine by me.

Our shitzu sniffed them and then left them. She's so sweet and tolerant but not protective at all. But then again, she's not at all dominant and looks to us at protectors of the family (expect when the mailman comes by....what's with that?! Lol)

@kkdb14 I'm so happy to hear that. I'm due in two weeks and every time the dogs bark at the door I'm freaking out of how that's going to wake/startle a sleeping baby. It still might but at least your experience made me feel a little better.

First day home and none of our cats are anywhere to be found??? My big baby is an outside dog so no worries there. I am iffy about MIL cat. She rips her fur out and bleeds in the bouncer X( honestly I won't let her in if I'm here anymore. She isn't strictly an inside cat so I don't see how it will hurt.

Not delivered yet, but I'm paying attention for ideas, our Siberian girl is a super bum most of the time so we're hopeful that all of the baby noises and changes won't even faze her!

My cat is mostly ignoring LO. She will sleep in her room but mostly just cuz she likes the futon in there.

I do feel badly that we in turn are ignoring the cat - bad at remembering to feed him wet food or change his litter (don't worry he has dry food out at all times - he just likes wet food too!)

Our 3 pups seem to be adjusting pretty well. Ive been particularly worried that our chihuahua who is a mamas boy and who normally would be on my nap at all times- a spot that baby has now claimed- is jealous. This seems to be my issue more than anything though. The dog has been fine and I just feel guilty! Our Saint Bernard really could care less about the baby, and while our Puggle was a little too excited when we first brought baby home, she has since learned that she needs to be gentle/careful and is starting to calm down.

We have a Rhodesian ridgeback and so far he hasn't shown any signs of aggression but is very interested and gets really excitable and runs over when baby cries. I'm just nervous with such a big dog. He's the type of dog who doesn't even know how big he is. If something made him snap... I just can't even think about it! Today is only our third day home and so far we have kept him muzzled much of the time and kept a very close eye on him. It's an added layer of stress for sure, when I'm already overwhelmed!! Is anyone else just so nervous about their big dogs? We have a cocker spaniel too and she comes over for an occasional sniff and I haven't even given her a second thought. She's completely fine and harmless and fear doesn't enter my mind with her. Any experience or thoughts would be appreciated! Ridgebacks are supposed to be good family dogs and good with kids but I cannot imagine if something went wrong. Ugh!

True story: the night we came home from the hospital, just over 48 hours after LO's birth, our lab swallowed a pacifier whole. Only we didn't see it happen, it wasn't until later at night when we were looking for the pacifier and couldn't find it that we considered the possibility. My husband and I were both exhausted and sleep-deprived, of course, and a little stressed about our first night at home. Neither of us could remember who had had the paci last or where we'd left it, so we turned the house upside down looking for it. When we still couldn't find it, the thought came to mind that maybe the dog had eaten it. We called an after hours emergency vet, who recommended bringing her in immediately, but we weren't even sure she had eaten it, and she wasn't showing any signs of discomfort or vomiting, etc. Eventually we decided to just monitor her and take her to our regular vet 1st thing the next morning for an X-ray. Well, sure enough, the X-ray showed the pacifier sitting in her stomach, whole. It was a soothie pacifier from the hospital, so a soft rubber but with a very large disc on the end. The vet said if it were already in her intestines, he'd let her try to pass it, but as it was, he didn't think she'd be able to. He sent my husband to a specialist vet who put the dog under anesthesia and was able to remove it via scope; thankfully, we were able to avoid surgery. Still, $1500 later... we are now on hyper alert paci patrol. We only keep one out at any given time, and if LO is using it, our dog is in a different room behind a closed door or in a kennel. If LO isn't using it, it's in a drawer or somewhere equally inaccessible.

Moral of the story: watch out for those pacifiers and other tiny baby items that might smell so interesting to your pup!

My border collie lab is doing really well. We spent a good amount of time getting him use to the smells and stuff like that had our friends take Los hat to their house while we stayed in the hospital so he knew that sent too. He has kissed lo face and feet and she doesn't mind at all. He sometimes goes to check on her in the swing and shakes it so it's something we are mindful of. Other than that just making sure he doesn't chew on her toys and I think we are in good shape. I will certainly now be mindful of the paci though! Scary stuff glad your pup is ok joyfuljenny

Our dogs been puking bile right before eating 2x a day since Friday. He's eating and pooping without a problem. Not lethargic. Can't find a pacifier but he's pooping so can't imagine he ate it (he chews on them though). The vets gonna cost us money we don't have.

Our Pomaranian, Tux, has turned from lazy, chill dog to protective, mom's nighttime nursing buddy dog. It's ridiculously adorable. We went to the store this week & when we got back, DH sat down the car seat to show him she was good, I picked him up off the couch to take to the door to go outside. He runs all the way back to the car seat to check on her before he would set foot outside to go potty. Love it.

Does he vomit after eating, as well? Or vomit food at any time during the day?

We have a cat and a dog. Both were curious when we first brought baby home. The cat was a bit jealous. Our lab was a little apprehensive but very sweet and just wanted to sniff/lick baby. 2.5 weeks in they're both "over" it and back to being themselves. I read to give the animal attention when the baby is present so they associate baby with positive attention and not the opposite. We encourage our cat/dog to come check out baby and we give them pets when we're feeding/holding babe.

This. Our dog is crazy about older babies. If you're the right age to be dropping food on the floor, he's your best buddy, but newborns don't hold a whole lot of appeal.

We have now been home about a week and a half and my 2 siberians both are now used to the baby being here. For the first week our younger guy Otto was a little too curious trying to sniff and lick the baby way to much but now he's much more calmed down. Our cats don't seem to mind the baby at all, in fact one wants to lay with me and the baby on the couch all the time. It was a better transition for all than I expected thankfully!

Welp found half the pacifier we lost...ripped apart and chewed up. It was the nipple part so the giant hard silicone ring is still missing (it was a soothie). He's still pooping and eating and acting normally and hasn't thrown up since his morning (we're trying to space his food out over 4 portions not 2 since he's vomiting on an empty stomach). Mystery of that pacifier though...

^^^ was gonna say, feed him slightly smaller meals closer together. One of my cats will throw up if he has an empty stomach for too long.

My dog has bilious vomiting syndrome and has to eat 4 times a day or the presence of bile in his stomach with no food to absorb it irritates the lining enough to make him throw up. It worsens with stress so maybe the stress of new baby is causing it.

At the same time I really hope you find that paci ring

Our blue heeled has been great. He's really curious but doesn't get too close, even when LO is in bed with us. He doesn't like it when she cries, but wants to be next to me when nursing. So far so good. He's only grabbed on dirty diaper out of the trash and we got it before he shredded it. I think he's just happy to be home after being boarded for 3 days.

Omg! This is my nightmare. We only allow large Nyla bones in our house bc our lab swallows everything! Stuffed animals whole. Thankfully she poops them out but to have to deal with that and a new baby? Our lab will be spending A LOT of time in or huge backyard this summer.

@joyfuljenny oh god this is currently our situation. We think he definitely ate the rubber ring of the soothie and not the nipple part (he ripped that off). He's been acting fine for days (his vomiting started before the paci went missing) and if I didn't realize we lost the paci I would never know. But I know a call to the vet will be so much money. UGH!
