30 weeks measuring smaller

I am currently 30 weeks and just had a doc appointment. They booked me for a ultrasound as they said my last two appointments I was measuring small. I am 6ft tall, and currently 210 lbs.

My last 2 ultrasounds everything was fine. Face and everything measured good.

Should I be worried!?

Re: 30 weeks measuring smaller

  • I wouldn't be. You may just have a small baby :) Little one still has 10 more weeks to grow. I think the ultrasound may just be a precaution.

  • I wouldn't be too worried unless it's a significant amount that you're behind. I was behind at one point and then a growth spurt happened and won't stop and now I'm further ahead. The only way you should be worried is if you're the one causing the issue i.e. smoking while pregnant. But unless your doc is panicking about it you should relax some. Remember stress isnt good for either of you :)
  • I measured 28 on the tape and he considered that smaller than usual... Non-smoker
  • I just had a growth scan on Monday because I'm measuring small but the ultrasound said she was 44% for height and weight. They only really worry if baby is less than 10%. I know
It's easier said then done but try not to worry. My gut told me she was fine just small and that's what she is :-)

  • Yes I am just about 34 weeks and measuring at 30. My dr doesn't seem very concerned at 20 week anatomy scan she was measuring a couple days ahead. I will be having a growth scan on the 29th to check her size since I am considering vbac. My son always measured small too & I didn't gain much weight with him either. I think it's just how my body carries pregnancy so I'm not to concerned since I went through this last time too and he was perfect.

  • I'm measuring 2 weeks behind, too. My older daughter was small, too. It's nothing worry about. My midwife said they don't do ultrasounds unless the baby is more than two weeks behind. Your dr must just be extra cautious. Nothing to worry about. Enjoy your extra peak at baby!

Two weeks in either direction is still considered the normal range.  For what it's worth, I consistently measured 2w behind with my first, 1w behind with my second and 1w behind with this one.  Both of my babies were born at 40w3d, DD was 7lb15oz, DS was 8lb12oz and the picture of perfect health.  Truly I wouldn't spend another minute worrying!
  • With my first I measured 30 weeks at my 36 week appointment and they did an ultrasound right away that day.  Baby was measuring right at 36 weeks and was just fine.  This pregnancy at my last appointment at 32 weeks I was measuring 26 weeks.  I was worried my first pregnancy, but this time I figure it's just the way my body is built and I carry.  I'm also taller (5'10") and the doctor said that could be part of it.  They're just going to watch it, but will only be concerned if I go a number of weeks with no change.
