Leakage & Braxton Hicks

I am 24 weeks today and have been having 2 issues I hope others can relate to.

1. For the past 2 weeks, I have been having on and off nipple leakage.  I didn't think it would happen this early, but my midwife says is normal.  It first happened when I was indulging in Ramen noodles before bed and notices my shirt around my nipples was getting wet.  I literally thought I spilled on myself and thought I was going crazy, until I looked under my shirt and saw where the sticky mess was coming from.  It happened again last night before bed but is getting much worse.  It was dripping all the way down my stomach!  I think its time to get more nursing bras to wear all of the time, even to bed. :-/

2. Braxton Hicks contractions. Some women don't feel them, others do.  I am one of those weird women who can feel when I ovulate and I am still pretty sure I felt the exact moment of implantation.  Anyways, these contractions have been somewhat uncomfortable and scare me.  They are tolerable, but my midwife said if I have more that 6 in an hour, it could be preterm labor.  I try to relax when they start and that seems to help, but I got up to 5 an hour.  Anyone else worry about these?

Thanks ya'll!

I wouldn't worry about the contractions.  My doc says they are normal in the 2nd trimester, your body is preparing for birth.  She said that with BH contractions if you move around or change positions they should ease up and they are brief, if they don't ease up after moving around or changing position then you should probably get checked.  I had one the other night and got on my hands and knees and it went away.

I get tons of Braxton hicks. I'm also sensitive to ovulation pain. The rule my midwives have is to drink water, rest and time. If they get longer, stronger and closer together then that is a sign of real contractions. I'd never heard of a limit to bh because unlike real contractions mine never seemed to turn into a pattern.

I get Braxton Hicks a lot in the morning as I'm waking up which could be because I haven't drank any water in hours.  As far as I've heard/read, they are fine unless you are getting up to like four or more in an hour.

Hands and knees does work. Seems to get the baby in a new position and settle your uterus down. Suddenly i can only sleep on my left side and my other babies didn't cause this to happen. This baby seems to like what he likes.

With my first I started leaking at 15 weeks! It's a good sign that you will have a good supply when your baby comes!! As for the Braxton hicks, I am having a lot of them too. Try and drink more water as some times dehydration can bring them on

Early leakage does not mean you will have a good supply. I leaked with my first and had a small supply

I'm so glad you said that @bucher1s . I am 22 weeks and haven't had a single drop and was worried that was a bad sign.

I never had the Braxton hicks problem, I didn't feel them at all with my last oregnancy !! And so far I haven't felt them yet !! But my cervix has been so sensitive lately ! Ouch

@BrooklynBroussard what do the BH contractions feel like? I am having a hard time differentiating between the general growing pains/discomfort and something I should be more concerned about.

To me BH feel like a tightening of your lower abdomen. It will also get hard to the touch because your uterus is contracting.

I get a lot of BH. Often over 6 an hour, no matter how much water I drink. Some people just get them more than others (I got them early and frequently with both dd's). Like someone else said, as long as they don't turn in to a pattern you are ok. My babies were both overdue, so my ridiculous contractions never turned in to preterm labor. They are super annoying though. I woke up with one last night and it lasted for a good 3 minutes. I drank water and switched sides and it went away eventually

I get way more than 6 an hr and always check out just fine and perfectly hydrated. This is my second pregnancy. So I started feeling them around 14 weeks. As for the leaking with my first I got it around 16 weeks. With this one my milk dried up a few weeks ago and I've been empty ever since. It is nice. Just get some nursing pads if you want. I noticed patterns tho to my leaking. If I was super happy or cuddly feeling. Or if I was relaxing for bed so I just laid a towel down at night. And knew that cuddling was likely going to be a sticky mess haha

@BrooklynBroussard yikes! Ok, so maybe I'd know if I was experiencing them then. My pain is more general and achey all over. Sometimes the belly does feel a bit harder, but not nearly as intense as your description.

@BrooklynBroussard I never felt a Braxton hick ever ! With my first pregnancy I never noticed them, I'm always hearing people talk about them, and I'm like what are they and how do they feel. With this pregnancy I haven't felt any either yet ! Crazy

@BrooklynBroussard I'm so glad you said yours feel like a charlie horse! That's exactly how mine feel and I get them all the time. I was starting to think something is wrong because no one else described them like that. It's always relieving to read other moms' have similar weird "symptoms" :)

@amberrmariee20 So many people have told me this! I haven't met anyone who has as many as I do! Any women that have had them have told me it only occurred a couple times the whole pregnancy! I've had them for 2 months so they don't scare me. Plus, I don't worry unless I have some serious signs that I need to call the doctor.  But boy, they are WEIRD.

I've never experienced them !! I get pressure from the baby being low in my pelvis and the top of my belly will go squishy. It feels funny, or he will push up towards my ribs, I told me boyfriend the baby was pushing up towards my ribs and he goes "push back" haha.

I spent a day in the hospital this weekend because I was having a lot of BH contractions and my OB was worried that they would cause my cervix to dilate and I'm only 23 weeks. Turns out dehydration was the cause of the extra contractions. So ladies don't forget to drink lots of water, particularly in the summer months.

I've never experienced BH with my pregnancies either. My stomach varies in firmness throughout the day but I believe it's mostly based off baby's positioning and whether or not I've eaten recently. I know what contractions feel like, very obvious and distinctive feeling I'm assuming BH are similar to a contraction minus the intensity

I guess a better word choice is to say it's a good indicator of having a healthy supply. When I was in the hospital the lactation consultants note that any changes in the breast during pregnancy are a good indicator (that of course being said isn't always 100%). This time around I have no leakage but don't doubt I'll have adequate supply again so I wouldn't worry about not leaking. Plenty of women go on to have a good supply and never leak.
