I'm six weeks pregnant and today I started spotting. It's not heavy like a period, but there is blood. I can't go see a doctor until Monday. Should I be worried? What should I do to stay on the safe side?
I had some old blood at about 5 weeks and wasn't concerned. Then I had a LOT of bright red blood and went to the hospital. The kept assuring me things were ok since I wasn't cramping. They sent me for blood test to measure my hcg counts to make sure they were climbing (they were) and ultrasounds which showed nothing since it's so early. If you are not cramping, don't worry! As the embryo implants itself into your lining, that will displace some blood. (Implantation bleeding). My doctor told me that 30% of pregnancies have bleeding, and th us is my second pregnancy with bleeding. Still see your doc to be sure, but stay positive if you are not having cramping. Congrats!
Hi - I had some spotting this pregnancy too. I lifted one of my daughters up on stage at dance recital and ended up getting about a quarter size blood spot, then the next several days had pink tinge to brown discharge ( which is just old blood so not a big deal) . Just had an ultrasound done ( Im 6 weeks and 5 days) and perfectly healthy heartbeat baby is there. It can be very normal to spot, as long as it's not bright red with clumps and a lot of it, and as long as there is no pain associated with it I would rest and drink plenty of water and know that alot of women do spot for some unknown reason. Could be a broken blood vessel or implantation bleeding. Good Luck - and if you are still spotting ask your Dr if you could have an early ultrasound to confirm all is ok!
Spotting during the first trimester is normal. If the blood is bright red and accompanied by cramping, call your doctor or go to the ER. I would still follow up with your doctor on Monday even if the spotting stops, just in case.
Call your OB's after hours line to see what they want you to do. Bleeding can be normal but in my experience it was not. Do not go to the ER as the doctors are not trained in Obsterics and can give improper information and in the worst case scenario can't do anything anyways. There was a post on a BMB a couple months ago from a woman in a similar situation who went to the ER where they told her she had miscarried and wrote a prescription for misoprostol to help the mc along. The poster waited on taking the RX until seeing her OB where they found a heartbeat. Had she taken advice from the ER her baby would not have made it.
