dads and diapers...

Have any of you planned or had a daddy baby shower such as Huggies for Chuggies or dads and diapers? I am planning one for my boyfriend for a way to get diapers saved up, but not only that, for him to have a day with the guys before baby comes.

Any tips/advice from those of you who have planned one in the past? Any tips would be appreciated, I want him to have a great time with the guys!

I think diaper showers are great, but I would think someone else plans that, not one of the parents-to-be. It's falls in the shower category in my mind, which you don't do for yourself. I've seen several people on here dislike the idea altogether because it assigns a required gift. Guests can choose how large of a pack to bring, though, so I personally don't think it's rude.

Our friend group does one for new parents and we do it as a couples/coed party. The host usually buys a bunch of beer or a keg, everyone brings a food dish and a pack of diapers. It's pretty much what we do once a month together on a normal basis anyways, minus the diapers, so it's no biggie. No invitations, decorations, or anything

Check it out on Pinterest. I've seen some people do something at Hooters (they have it organized) or as a golf outing.

Agree with the PP. Since you are directly benefitting from the event, you should not be hosting it. I'm not a big fan of diaper showers to begin with, but it would seem pretty gift grabby for you to throw it yourself.

If someone offers to host it, it would be more appropriate (just be prepared to be exchanging diapers).
  • Yeah. My husband is from Michigan where diaper parties are the norm for expectant fathers. Usually a close friend or family member hosts the party. They are a big hit up there! Not as much here in the south where we live.

  • His best friend will be hosting it, but he lives in Louisiana right now and will be moving back home (Minnesota) shortly before the party for his own wedding.

So pretty much I'm getting a few things together for him since he asked for my help getting it pulled together. It's nothing too formal. The guys have been talking about it since they knew we we're expecting. (They just love opportunities to get together and have a few beers.)

I'll actually be at a women's only shower during this time, so I'm not hosting it, just helping with the planning.
  • Diaper parties are common were I live and I have been to many that a thrown by the parents-to-be. Most people do a FB invite instead of an invitation and they are not formal at all here so I think all the rules get thrown out. Most diaper parties around here are co ed and it's like any other cook out with the addition of everyone bringing a pack of diapers. Just make sure you don't runout of beer and have fun!! :)

Agreed. Seems really desperate for diapers IMO if someone was like hey wanna come over for some drinks? Please bring diapers and food.

We have never been asked to bring food, just diapers:). To be honest it's just a reason to drink! Our friends probably break even, yes you get a ton of diapers but you have to store them, and beer and food for 50-100 people isn't cheap. Most people rent a park, a few hundred more spent there.

In the end it's all about rooting the new Dad on!! (Dad's get overlooked a lot) We went to one last weekend and listening to my hubs and his two best friends who are also expecting was hilarious!! They are all scared but keep saying we can do this so and so does it! We can still watch football together we just need to move a changing table to the livingroom!!

Plan your party!! Have fun!! Don't expect to hit the diaper lottery jackpot (most guys don't know what kinds/sizes to buy and non dads usually buy small packs) or save a bunch of money!!
  • @LLynde5 Thank you!! The whole thing is for a chance for them to get together and drink before summer's over/before baby's here. I could care less about how many diapers we actually get, I just want him to feel special like we do as new moms. Dads definitely seem to get looked over!
  • Please don't call it huggies and chuggies X_X
