8 week old on a plane!

I'm taking my lo who will be 8 week old on a 1 hour flight for a family reunion. My doctor already cleared it, but I am still worried. Any past experiences? Any suggestions that could make the trip easier? What do you do to ease the discomfort of pressure change during take off? Any items that worked well for you during long trips? Any suggestion is welcome.

  • I flew with my 1st at 8 weeks...sooo easy! Give yourself plenty of time to check in and get through security. Take the stroller and car seat to the gate...if the plane isn't full of if you bought baby a seat then you can take baby on in the infant seat. If not, wear her. I nursed just before boarding and had a pacifier and pumped bottle just in case. It was a 3 hr flight and she slept both ways...car seat there and worn by daddy home :)

  • We took our first when he wss really young. I don't remember now how old he was but having a bottle or nursing during take off and landing helped because the sucking motion helps their ears to not plug. Kinda the same way chewing gum does for an adult. Also if u didn't buy a ticket for baby you can ask the stewardess if there are empty seats and sometimes switch to a seat that has an empty one next to yours for extra room. Also if baby is awake and fussy I would opt to board the plane towards the end of boarding. Often they allow families with small kiddos to board first. To me that is silly why make your kids be stuck on the plane any longer than they have to.
  • I took mine at 2 1/2 weeks and it was actually easy she just slept the whole time except for feeds (I was on a 3 hour plane) and she slept through the pressure time but my friend advised dummie or bottle if awake during that time
