Music while you are pregnant

okay so I'm 19 weeks and 3 days (almost 4) & I know my baby can hear a lot more now and I was wondering , I am using ear buds for headphones and have one in my ear and the other pressed against my belly. Can she hear it? Are they big enough? I always see people using bigger headphones and wrapping them around their belly but I want to hear the music too so I am just wondering haha.

  • That's really really cute (:
Yeah I heard it gets loud in there so I had the volume pretty low!

But if I just play in on my phone speaker she can hear? Sweet ☺️

I have heard you don't need headphones for baby to hear the music. It's actually quite loud. If you do a google search, there are a lot of videos out there on what sounds are like for baby in utero (I know because I'm a FTM and had this same question recently!)

Everything I've read says we'd be surprised just how much they pick up from the ambient noises around us. So if you do use headphones, I'd made sure they aren't super loud. Otherwise, music playing in the background should be plenty for baby to hear.

I picked a song that means a lot to me to sing and hum to myself while pregnant, I want to see if he'll recognize it after birth :)
I always would play or sing (very poorly) Lana Del Ray's version of "Once upon a Dream". Sleeping Beauty was always one of my favorites growing up. DD has gotten burnt out on it, but she still loves Disney songs that are similar. Her current favorite is "A Dream is a Wish". It is awesome to see how music has influenced her.

This baby will probably come out singing Fall Out Boy.

  • My favorite song has been Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd and it has been since I was little my parents listened to it while my mom was pregnant and now I play and hum it for my little girl hopefully I can make it her favorite too hehe :)

As PP mentioned, you don't need headphones for Baby to hear music.  It'll be a bit muffled, but they can hear it if you just play it through regular speakers.  I was on a '90s kick there for a while, but I started playing Billy Joel in the car yesterday (he's my fave).
  • My oldest DS sings twinkle twinkle to my belly. And baby usually gets pretty active when he sings it. Also when my other DS is crying baby gets pretty active. Love seeing that my three boys are already connected. :)
