SO HUNGRY!!! snack ideas?!?!

edited June 2015 in October 2015 Moms
I know there are other threads on this, but here goes another one...
I feel like I can sit down and eat an entire meal, clean up the kitchen, go sit down, and I'm already hungry again!
Any ideas on how I can feel full longer?
Or maybe some snack ideas to keep on hand?

Edit: posted too early.

I feel the same way and I have gained 21 pounds in 22 weeks. My doctor seemed to not be too worried cos according to her, I started out small (less than 115) and so, according to her, even if I doubled that before the end of the pregnancy she would still not be worried. To be honest, I was eating a lot and indulging in sweets like ice cream which I never did. I started eating a lot of cheese and I was never a cheese girl. I can't explain it but right now my appetite is monstrous and I'm just hungry all the time! I'm not comfortable with the rapid gain tho so once I saw that last figure, I decided to slow it down. Cut out the cheese, toned down the carbs and cleared out the junk n stocked fruits and nuts. Those have been my snacks between actual meals recently. So grapes, strawberries, pineapples, oranges, mandarins, cashew nuts, peanuts etc. have been my snacks. I'm interested in seeing other suggestions since clearly I feel like I need to eat all the time lol

  • Mix up your macros (carb, protein, fat ratio). By having meals/snacks where you have more protein (increase fiber, too), your body will take longer to breakdown the fuel and you'll stay fuller longer. Make sure you're drinking lots of water, too, when you eat more protein. I won't eat snacks without a main protein involved because I know they make me hungry sooner even if the caloric value was higher. Consider meats, cheeses, eggs, nuts, etc. as good options to integrate into your meals wherever you can! Check out the protein thread for more ideas.

  • second other posters, aim for fresh fruit, veggies, fiber, protein. some snacks/stomach-fillers I like:

carrots and hummus (low calorie and high protein)

fruit salad (a huge bowl of cut fruit is surprisingly filling and it's basically a healthy dessert)

whole grain crackers topped with hummus+cucumber

"spa water" throw some cucumber, lemon, pineapple, or orange slices in a pitcher of water with some mint leaves (optional)

trail mix (not the kind with m&ms in it)

I occasionally throw down some diet soda if I've eaten too many calories already for the day, but it's basically nutritionless so I don't recommend it. Target does have some generic brand flavored "sparkling water beverage" that's tasty though
  • I do my best to hit the fruit, but right now all I can think about is potato chips and dip! Lol. I'm with ya on the always being hungry, feels like I'm eating myself out of house and home. I can't keep up with the groceries (my most hated chore) and always feel like there is nothing to eat! Off the raid the fridge!

  • I find that healthy fats work best for me to stomp out the constant hunger.  A glass of whole milk, a scoop of whole fat plain yogurt, half an avocado, or a handful of nuts have really answered that endless pit feeling.  I figure I am eating whole unprocessed foods and the calories and fat from one decent serving(in addition to the other nutrients) will outweigh the constant picking of some other form of empty calories.  I actually started eating like this a few years ago and have found the more healthy fat I eat, the less nagging insatiable hunger I feel and the easier it was to maintain my weight.
  • I was having the same issue at work- I'd be hungry two hours after lunch!  I started eating carrots with a little bit of peanut butter for protein, and that has curbed them.
  • Same issue here too.. I've been keeping a jar of peanut butter here at work and apples. They go great together! I also have cheese and crackers handy..
  • Fat free Greek yogurt or cottage cheese with chopped fruit. Cantaloupe, kiwi, watermelon, blueberries, pineapple, all really yummy
  • I love eating frozen fruits strawberries pineapple grapes
