Hysteroscopy recovery time?

I'll be getting a hysteroscopy (likely to correct the shape of my uterus, which on ultrasound is very slightly t-shape) in July, exactly 1 week after I come back from vacation. I've been told I couldn't drive the next day, but haven't been told much more in terms of recovery time, which I understand will depend on what they find and hopefully fix. My worry is how long to take off work...I'm self employed so it's no big deal and I was thinking of taking the whole week to work from home, but given that I'm just coming back from vacay, it's a little tricky. I also had my gallbladder taken out earlier this year and was told by the surgeon I'd be fine in two days which wasn't the case (more like a solid week).
Any insights from people who've had a hysteroscopy?

  • I felt fine the next day, but I only had a D&C done during my hysteroscopy.  I took 3 days off to be safe though.

  • They did a hysteroscopy for me when they did my laparoscopy and they said normal activity just no heavy lifting for a week.

  • July 12. I've never been so excited for a surgery (how weird is that?!)
  • And thanks everyone! Seems reassuring! I guess I'm just expecting the worse after my surgery last January. I've decided to take the whole week working from home. I'm my own boss, and it's time I take care of myself.
  • LOL  it's not weird at all! It gets you that step closer to your goal... totally understandable.  :-D

  • For sure! It's been such a crazy year for me medically. I had my gallbladder removed end of January, and within two weeks of that, I started Invisalign and fertility treatments. Thank god I have a flexible schedule! I can't wait not to have at least one medical appointment per week!
  • @Kidshrink How do you like the Invisalign?  I've been kicking around the idea of getting my teeth done.  I wore braces as a kid but wasn't diligent with my retainers, so my bottom teeth have slipped out of alignment.   I don't mind going back to metal braces but I hate the stains that they make.

  • It's not bad! Adapting to the attachments (little spikes made of the white filling material) was harder, but I'm okay now. I get a bit of pressure wherever there's movement for a day or two following the change. You need to constantly be drinking water though...no water, my mouth makes weird squishing noises and I get a lisp. And you need to hurry up with eating, brush and floss each time...can be time consuming, but on the plus side, I think about it twice before eating something. There was no way I would have done the regular braces, but this works. I have a total of 34 aligners to be changed every second week. There's now some vibrating device that people use to accelerate the process (I've heard changing aligners every 5-7 days) but given the unknown safety if I ever got pregnant, I decided to go the long way. All in all, satisfied so far, but can wait til the end of May next year when I'll be done!
