Tooo much milk

little one is almost 2 weeks old .. We tried feeding from the Breast but it wasn't working for him, so now I'm exclusively pumping. He eats about 2 ounces every 3 hours but I am so engorged and feel like I need to pump all the time for relief. I pump about 6 ounces every time which is joe than enough to feed him and freeze some. Any advice on how to slow down the need to pump so often? I'd like to go 4 hours between pumps.

  • I'd try the breastfeeding board. They have helpful advice.

  • I think the standard advice is to pump only until you feel relief but no longer. Eventually, your supply will drop. Alternatively, you could donate your extra milk to a breast milk bank and make someone else very grateful. :)

Yes, I had the exact same problem. I would pump after every feeding or two and then my boob would get so full again. Apparently it's because I was pumping until it was empty so my breast would fill back up again because my body thought there was a need. I stopped pumping as much and just let the supply come down gradually. It worked in a few days/week.
