The doctor tore my gooch!!!

:( I hate internal exams. Like when they check your cervix. I had one male doctor do it and I was afraid it would hurt because he had big hands. But he had me put my feet together and let my knees fall apart and it didn't hurt one bit. When I saw my normal doctor, a woman with small hands, she had me laying as if I was getting a Pap smear with my legs apart and feet apart and my bum on the edge of the table. When she reached to check my cervix it hurt SO bad and my gooch bled after.

Any tips on how to make these internal checks easier?

    I'm sorry that you got hurt. That stinks. If you don't like them, skip it. When you go in, don't change into the gown and let the nurse or provider politely know that you are declining the internal exam today. It is absolutely your right to not do one. Since current status is no predictor of time or speed of future progress, it really is not medically necessary (and even if it was, it is still your right to decline). Even when you are in labor you can decline, if you'd like.

    There are two doctors at the practice I go to and one has you lay like you're having a Pap and the other has you put your feet together and spread your knees.  I'm not sure if its just the skill of the doctor, but I do feel like it hurts less with the feet together and knees spread approach (both were definitely uncomfortable though).  I tried Google to learn more about the different positions but no luck...I must not have plugged in the right words or its an obscure question.

    I was thinking the exact same thing. A tear and a scratch are completely different.

    I have a friend with a last name of Kuch but it's pronounced the same. When I teased him about it, he was like what it means cook in German :)
