Some classes have the tour included, at least with our hospital. We are taking a separate tour around 28 weeks. It's free, and spots fill fast as they only take 10 moms-to-be and partner each time, so I just got in when I could.
Our hospital recommended you do it in your 7th month. They only did them on a specific day and time. You had to register and space was limited. I would call yor hospital and see what they say because a lot of hospitals do them as part of their classes.
I'm very curious, so I am going to try to get in the hospital class (tour included I think) at 6 months even though they want you to be 7 (I like bring prepared, and month seven will be really busy for hubby and I).
I already did it bc wanted to do on a weekend before it got crazy in the thick of summer with weddings and stuff. Can't hurt. I took some notes and asked a lot of questions.
We're taking one next week (I'll be 24w), but I work for the hospital and it is part of an "expectant parent workshop" that HR offers, where they talk about maternity leave, benefits, etc. The workshops are only offered every other month and I thought the next one would be too late.
I am going this evening. Our hospitals in town offer an open house with door prizes and tours through the different units. I am super excited. They'll also have info on which birthing classes they offer.
Ours is included in the birthing class so it will be month 7 when we have our tour. There is only one hospital choice though and it isn't huge so it's not that big of a deal for me to take the tour.
I already took it last week (at 22 weeks) and although I was the least pregnant lady on the tour, I feel so much better, just being able to visualize where I'm going to give birth.
I was a little late to the party on the tour with DD, but I like when I did it. Looking back on it, I saw a lot of the stuff I had been learning more about near the end. I think it was around 35-36 weeks. I also had a couple girlfriends who had babies within my last two months of pregnancy, so I was there several times before it was my turn
I'd do at least 2 months in advance. I've had a few friends who have delivered early and never went on a tour. We actually did a tour when we met our midwife back when i was only 10 weeks pregnant.
