Positive chlamydia result...WHY?!? How?!?

I've never had any std's and my husband and I are faithful to each other. A week ago I went to the hospital and they didn't tell me I had chlamydia, they said I just had BV and my doctor called me saying I have chlamydia. How is that possible can the results from my doctor be wrong? I'm really worried

  • Best of luck! I would get a second test done to be sure, too. Like a PP said, it could have been hanging out in your system dormant for years before it gave you a positive. Maybe have your husband tested, too.

  • So it could of been from years ago how is this possible?
  • If you had a partner before your husband who may have had it (knowingly or not). As @mmk29 mentioned, you can have it but not have any symptoms of it.

Just because you have chlamydia does not mean you have symptoms. If you're regularly tested for STDs then chances are not in the a few years old category. However, if you haven't been tested for awhile it could be a fairly old infection. Check with your OB if you were tested in the beginning of your pregnancy for STDs, mine does but not sure if everyone does.

This happened to my sister.. It came back positive for herpes on the second test mid-pregnancy and it has never been positive again since. Nor has she ever had symptoms or anything else for it
  • Mine did the testing my very first appointment and thankfully all of mine came back clean but those tests rarely come back as false positives..
  • Either
    1. You got a false positive
    Or
    2. Since the last time you were tested you contracted it from your husband or another person

Either way i would get checked again asap and your husband should get checked too. If you haven't gotten tested in years it could be that you've had this for awhile and not known. Your husband could have given it to you unknowingly as well.

As pp said this is an std that can have effects on your pregnancy so I would follow up immediately.
