General anaesthetic

i get my delivery date on Monday, 3rd section. I'm so anxious & feel sick thinking about going through it again. Does anyone know if you can choose to have a general, or whether they only put you right out in emergencies?

    C-sections cannot be done under general unless it's an emergency because the anesthetic gases and drugs can have a profound depressive effect of the baby including respiratory depression and decreased reflexes and tone.
