Strep Test Positive

Just got my Group B Strep Test results back and they're positive. Anyone else?

I know it's pretty common and that knowing I'm positive before birth so they can administer antibiotics is a good thing but of course I read too much on the internet and now I'm anxious.

Just about everyone at any given time will have strep b...nothing to really worry about as long as you get the recommended antibiotic and take them as prescribed.

Some women can live with it for a very long time and have no symptoms at all. Other than pregnancy and delivery usually if you don't have symptoms they won't even worry about antibiotics. Now you know the internet will only tell you that you will die lol

I got a positive result as well, not too much I can do about it other than take the antibiotics at delivery. I'm not worried.

I tested positive with my first. The process of getting the antibiotics wasn't bad. They did try and get me the antibiotics as fast as they could bc I was progressing quickly. I finally complained to a nurse about how badly my arm was burning. She made a joke about my arm probably not hurting as badly as my contractions had. I corrected her and explained that it felt like my arm was burning from the inside out. She checked and diluted the drip to a more manageable level and put a hot compress on my arm. It took an hour longer for me to finish the bag but was well worth it.

I agree with mommy1922 & Chanielle14...researching stuff of the Internet can become overwhelming & more discouraging than helpful! Be selective in what you read, take everything with a "grain of salt" & always consult your doctors!

I'm by no means trying to scare anyone, but just be careful with Group B. With my first LO I went through the worst case senario because of Group B. Yes, problems are very preventable and should not happen under normal circumstances. However, Complications because of group b can be very dangerous to the baby. My only words of wisdom is to get to the hospital immediately if you feel like you might be in labor and if you think you may be leaking any fluid at all then go get it checked right away, don't wait! Rather to be sent away knowing that you are not leaking than to risk the bacteria spreading. I am considered group b positive again this time around so my doctor will make sure I am pumped full of antibiotics before she induces labor.

My sister tested positive for strep b and labor was progressing so quickly that she actually thought she might've delivered in the car on the way to the hospital! She REALLY wanted to go all natural with no epidural but once she got to the hospital she didn't have a choice and they had to give her an epidural to slow down her labor so they could administer the antibiotics for strep b! So word of advice is to get to the hospital as soon as you think you're going into labor so that way they can get you the antibiotics in time without having to intervene especially if you want to go all natural! Don't wait it out at home!

I tested negative, thank God. I asked if it could become positive before I give birth, but they said the results are good for at least 5 weeks, so that's one less thing I'll have to worry about.

I tested postive in my urine early on, so I will have to have antibiotics. Don't worry, they deal with it all the time. Even if you don't get the antibiotics, the chance of infection is still pretty low.

I tested negative. I'm thankful for that. I was worried mostly about side effects from antibiotics since they make me really sick and cause yeast infections for me. However if it were positive I planned to load up on probiotics during and after labor to prevent thrush in myself and the baby. I've been drinking kefir my entire pregnancy so I don't know if that helped or not. Either way as much as I hate medications I still would have taken the antibiotics.

How long did it Take to get your results? I had my test done on Friday. Did they tell you at your next appointment?

I tested positive in my urine test early on, so we know that I need to get to the hospital asap for antibiotics. I thought last night I had a slow leaking water break so I called my midwife and they had me come in just to be sure as they do want to administer the antibiotics at least 2 times. So they want me there 8 hours before I give birth bit a min of 4 for one dose to go through.

They said I did the right thing calling and had me come in especially cause of my positive GBS test.

It's a low chance anything will happen due to the positive test but there's always that's chance, so ensure you're both safe by going in even if you're unsure of if you're in labor, better to be safe than sorry

@AshleighNHill I got tested Thursday and got the results today. My doctors office has the online app/website thing where they send you test results and stuff so I get everything pretty quick and then they discuss it at my next appointment if it isn't urgent.

They didn't give me the results until my next appointment the following week. Since they waited, I kinda figured the results were negative. But they SAID it should have only taken 2 to 3 days.

I had it with my first and all i can say is the antibiotics BURNED...make sure u have an ice pack or something cool to put on ur arm. When they did mine the nurse left and my arm started burning and they were no where to be found! I had to wait a lil while before i got it...u dont wanna b burning and having contractions!

I tested positive in the first trimester. I went in for a yeast infection and they found out I had It. Don't be too worried all they do is administer antibiotics while in labor

thankfully it's not something that will pass on to the baby in most cases.

I got swabbed 2 weeks ago at my last appt.. im 36w now... but I haven't got a call or anything to say whether im positive or negative. I have a appt tomorrow but is it common if they dont tell you immediately? I believe I was swabbed a bit early...

I wasn't called. They just told me at my next appointment.

If the antibiotics don't worked (which in my case they didn't) it can most definitely pass on to the baby. It passed on to my daughter, who is now 5, and she had to stay on the NIC-U for 10 days because it got into her blood system and she had to be given antibiotics through an iv twice a day. So it really isn't something you can just say oh well and not worry about! Just hope the antibiotics do the trick!

I tested positive at my appointment a couple days ago n my Dr gave me a prescription for an antibiotic to take now. Is that normal or has anyone else heard of a Dr doing that? I'm a ftm n I'm 36 weeks n 4 days today n kinda freaked out that I'm gonna pass it on or that I'm going to have to get them again at delivery

I am by no means in the medical field but I've done a lot of reach on Group B and am working with a specialist for this pregnancy since I had a horrible experience with Group B during my first labor and passed in on to my LO, but everything that I have read says that oral antibiotics taken before labor are not effective because the bacteria grows back too quickly. Hopefully I'm wrong and they help you out.

She said there was 2 doses of it. The first dose I take 3 pills a day for a week then the second I take 1 a day for a week. So I should be around 39 weeks but I'm kinda scared that I will have her early so f I do then what ya know

I have it too. Can we still get our membranes sweeped or can that spread it to the baby even if the water is still intact?

My first labor happened way too quickly. He was born 7 weeks early and my total time in labor was less than 4 hours. When I got to the hospital it was already time to push so unfortunately I didn't get any antibiotics at all. Because I delivered too early I hadn't even been tested yet because I was only at 33 weeks. The good news is that passing the bacteria on is preventable, so the doctors will be well prepared and ready to take care of your situation. Personally, I would still request an IV of antibiotics even though you have been given an oral prescription, but that's just my 2 cents.
