Not Really Gaining Weight - Not Hungry

I will start off with that I am not skinny. When I was in my first and second trimester, I was SO excited that I was losing weight. My doctor was not concerned because my bump was growing properly. Now that I am a day away from 30 weeks, I am starting to worry. I am not really hungry, and in the month (24 week appointment to 28 week appointment) I only gained 1 pound. I am still not back to my pre-pregnancy weight. I lost a total of 10-11 pound and have slowly been gaining some of it back. I still have 5-6 pound to go to get to my pre-pregnancy weight. I drink a ton of water, and right now am more or less forcing myself to eat. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Re: Not Really Gaining Weight - Not Hungry

  • If your doctor isnt concerned then I wouldn't be either. I'm finding in this pregnancy, this third trimester I'm really not as ravenously hungry as I was last time.

  • Meeee! I lost about 25 pounds in the first tri. I was about 150 at my first prenatal and I got down to 125 by 13 weeks. I'm still not back to 150. I only gain about 1-2 pounds between appointments as well. If that. This last one I hadn't gained anything. My new doctor isn't worried about it. As long as baby is healthy and growing on track (& they would let you know if he/she wasn't) I think it's okay. Plus your stomach is so squashed right now that it's hard to eat as much as you normally would. Just try to squeeze in small meals and snacks throughout the day to give you some energy :)
  • Yes, and there are a few posts about it (if you search for 'appetite' you'll find them). I have next to no appetite and haven't gained much weight (around 4lb) - also my weight hasn't changed for over a month now. The baby is fine.

Just try to eat small and healthy where you can, and If the dr is happy you don't need to worry.
  • It's normal, especially in 3rd tri to have a decrease in appetite. If you and baby are healthy, I wouldn't be concerned.
  • As PPs said I wouldn't worry if your doctor isn't worried. I've only gained 6lbs and my doctor basically just said to make sure I'm eating small meals/snacks through out the day. LO is getting everything needed.

  • I'm overweight anyway. I've only gained 12lbs but that was in 2nd trimester. I haven't gained anything in the third (I'm 32+4 weeks). I'm rarely hungry too and I just want light foods that aren't heavy in this intense heat.
We went to eat Mexican food yesterday and I didn't even eat 1/2 of my quesadilla. Before pregnancy I would of eaten the whole thing plus a whole basket of chips. Just don't have an appetite much lately.

  • I have not gained weight since I started going to the dr. @ around 2-3 months. This my fourth pregnancy, but the first time this happened everything is fine. My baby only in the 29 percentile, so im a little worried. My other kids were 7 or a little under 7lbs when they were born

I wouldn't worry too much if the dr. says the baby is fine
