Baby head shape

My babies head is lopsided in the back. I tried shaping it but she still constantly lays on that left side of head. Anything I can do at this point, is it too late? Right now she doesn't have any hair either so it really sticks out

Re: Baby head shape

  • Oh yea she is 14 weeks

  • That little knots
  • The skull is pretty resilient for a few months, until the sutures close. And once your LO is lifting her head more (sitting independently, crawling) it should get better. Do you alternate directions when you put her in the crib? Apparently, babies prefer facing out, so if they are consistently lying in the same direction, they might always lie on that side.
  • If it really bothers you, mention it to your pediatrician. In the meantime, here's a link with some information and suggestions to help.

  • It isn't too late, but you should try to make sure she is being held or worn if she is awake. When she lays down you can use something to prop her head to the opposite side.
  • Yes I try to constantly switch her ends and she will still lay on the left side

Look into whether there's a torticollis (wry neck). My little guy had a knot on the left side of his neck (likely from a birth trauma) so he always lays with his head to the right and tilts it to the left. We're seeing a physiotherapist now to try to stretch out his neck. She said that at this age, if we're Doing his stretches, elevating the mattress on the one side so it's harder to turn that way, and keeping things interesting on his less favored side, his head should even out.

Look into the tortle beanie at tortle.com.. We're trying that with my 14 week old. My first son had to wear a reshaping helmet for a few months as an infant, so I'm terrified of having to do that again. I'm also going to take the little guy to a pediatric chiropractor to get a little adjustment. He favors one side of his neck so I feel like he could really benefit from it.
  • We've had the same issue. We had a physical therapist check out our little one and she wasn't concerned about torticollis but did suggest the tortle hat. However, my son hates when I put it on him and slides off eventually. So we just bought a pillow called "baby moonpod" off amazon and so far we like it! Haven't had the guts to try it at night yet but it works well when we lay him down in the daytime and I'm around! Too soon to tell if it's helping!
