just wondering since this seemed like a concern a few months ago. People insisting on being in the waiting room/delivery room. Wondering if anyone had any stories to share!
My husband and I have been settled for months now that it would be just us---last night at dinner he tells he wants his mom. We're due tomorrow. I have a big decision to make.
DH has insisted no one but us for the birth..... The closer I get the more scared I get about not having a female support in the room to kick my butt during pushing. I secretly had my friend have her mom take off to watch her kids in case I need a game time female support. I was just in her birth and did photos and a beautiful video...... Is it bad that I really want those photos and video as well ?! Eek.......we will see what really happens. DH hates hospitals...... But says he can handle this alone.
My fam upheld the "don't come to the hospital" request. My mom did not exactly listen to everything I asked - in that she did get in the car and drive to the major city I was delivering in. But, she didn't tell me, did not come to the hospital, instead hung out and did touristy stuff - I'm guessing my stepdad's idea to keep her from going insane, which was smart. When we called them a few hours after birth, they confessed they were in town. We didn't get too mad at that. We did make them wait another few hours to see us though and they were very cool with it.
I sent my mom and sis home since we thought I would be laboring until morning...now I have no pictures of her right when she was born since that was my sisters job and she ended up coming faster than expected! Plus she was born "veiled" which is supposedly cool and mystical and i know my sis would have gotten a super awesome picture of that!
It was nice thought that no one was in waiting room in a way because then we had lots of skin to skin time and started breast feeding right away without worry of who wanted to see her. But I would have like of my mom and sis was there as planned.
^^^ en caul ? Face and head covered in amniotic sac? .....
My very first precip delivery (doc didn't make it) was an en caul baby! Supposedly it's lucky and your child could be clairvoyant.... I can't spell this morning.... Wives tales you know! @ElRuby

No drama here either. My cousin was actually in l&d for monitoring of her baby when we checked in. My aunt and cousins ended up stopping in prior to my section, which was just fine. They were quick and respectful so they made it easy. Because I ended up delivering later in the evening, only the grandparents came to the hospital that night. It was a quiet night. Perfect.
My SIL, mum and husband were meant to be there. Sent mum & SIL home at 10 cos nothing was happening, had emerg c section at 2 only me and hubby. Best scenario ever, so glad it was just us. I'm not sure my husband could have been as awesome as he was during labor & c section if they were there. We truly had the most enjoyable experience of our lives
The issue I had was that I wanted to labor naturally...with pitocin. So contractions were hard and it took a lot to even focus on DH. Well his step mom walked right in twice. Once to ask if I had a pad for her daughter?!? You couldn't ask anyone that's not currently pushing out a person??? My mom was so mad that she asked her to go eat dinner...outside the hospital and let me relax.
No drama, but my mum, who lives on the other side of the world to us, called my husband for an update right when I started pushing. As you can imagine we weren't really in a position to answer at the time, and then I had a bleed and was pretty unwell for a while. So it took several hours for DH to reply - my poor mum was frantic from the sound of things. It's quite sweet really, I guess you never stop being a mother. I haven't had the heart to tell her just how unwell I was afterwards, I think she'd feel terrible for not being there.
@ElRuby I will tell you that my en caul delivery was terrifying. Told doctor she was 6cm and to come in since she was a multip (had 3 other babies) and he said, "I'm going to shower then I'll be in." Ummmm 2 hrs later he wasn't there and she was comfy with her epidural and all of the sudden a brand new nurse grabs me from another room with a terrified look on her face..... "Something is coming out and it's not normal" is what she said. I go in and am flabbergasted and started tearing at the sac ...... And had to have her hand me sterile scissors to even cut it at all..... And baby came out and dad was horrified....... Lovely story really!!!! all my co workers said...... Only you would have that as your first precip delivery!
(Little did I know I could have just tried to pop my finger in babies mouth and the pressure would have popped it..) but uhhhh honestly I didn't know that it could even happen.
@ElRuby That is so neat!! Such a cool story to tell LO when she gets older!
Everything went as I wanted it to during my hospital stay. MIL and BIL were in the waiting room that evening when I asked them not to come up but whatever. They had to go home without seeing us. The next day MIL had SD with her in the waiting room and DH wanted to go get them before my parents and DD got there. That shit didn't happen. But my parents and MIL did stay out of the room before DD and SD got to meet LO like I wanted so it all worked out!
Me me me! MIL was pissed that her husband made them late to the delivery because he wanted to have breakfast. They live 30 mins tops from the hospital and DH called about an hour and a half before I started pushing. Granted I only pushed for 4 mins, they came about 20 mins after delivery and she walked into the room pissed off. Everyone that was there was totally peeved by her selfish behavior and I swear, the way she looked at my son, was like she was ready to snap his neck. It made NO sense to me why she was so bitter towards everyone and the whole situation just because she didn't watch the actual birth. Get over yourself!

Initially I had only wanted my parents and my hubby's parents at the hospital. It ended up being all three of his siblings and my brother as well. And it was so good they were all there too. I was induced because of low AFI and started at 0 with a soft cervix. After 12 hours of cervadil I was barely at 1. The pitocin was started and just shy of 24 hours from admission I needed an epidural. Got that and was feeling much better. My hubby was able to get out and get some air as the family rotated in to say hi. They brought him food and gave him the support and breaks he needed. So another 8 hours and I'm at 6, but soon after the chills start, and excruciating pain from my LO pushing down on my pelvis to get out. Around 2am the second night I was writhing in pain, had tingling in my hand and my neck was spasming. I was able to get a bonus in my epidural which was amazing. My poor hubby was doing everything he could to help me, rubbing my neck helping me turn trying to get me to focus on my breathing. He was amazing to say the least. Once I had the bolus they checked me again and I was still at 6cm now with my cervix getting swollen and irritated. My hubby was able again to get a break and talk with our family while my mom and mil came up to see me. Things were better until about 7 am when the bolus had worn off and I was still not progressing. All the same problems from the middle of the night came rushing back. After some struggle a second RN happened to come in saw me and got the anesthesiologist immediately, I got a second bolus and was so much better. In the next few hours I got to 9 1/2cm but still with a swollen cervix. The day shift dr. ended up taking me in for a C-section 46 hours after my induction had started. I am fairly certain my hubby would have lost it if all our family wasn't there to support him and let him share his concerns and how helpless he felt as I was going through everything. Thankfully they all were patient to see us after we got settled into our room. And they all drove home that night giving us the whole next day for the three of us to get to bond. Though I was not happy when I found out they were all coming, it was a huge blessing to have them all there.
