getting back on track

Okay, so, now that all the depressing family stuff is under control(somewhat), I need to get my diet back in order. I'm looking to get back on my GD diet but looking to mix it up. I am looking for some new smoothie recipes. Any suggestions are welcome.

I need to watch my diet too! Can we start a support group??

PS: Happy to hear your stuff is getting under control.

ETA: I don't have GD (haven't been tested rather) but I really need to watch it.

  • @favoritemandms I think a support group is definitely a good idea. I am so bad about falling off the wagon.

    @Pontot31 thank for the recipes!!

  • I would love a support group! I finally feel like I'm getting back to my healthy self and eating a lot of vegan/vegetarian meals.

Frozen spinach is a must. :) It's high in folic acid and it doesn't taste like anything when you mix it with juice. I'll also use pasteurized egg whites once in a while to up my protein intake. Here are some of my faves:

Spinach, banana, strawberry, water, splash of OJ, pomegranate juice (like POM wonderful)

Raspberries, OJ, water, egg white, spinach

Peaches, pineapple, a blended OJ like mango!

Greek yogurt is awesome in smoothies, too. Just make sure you mix it with something sweet like fruit juice. Sometimes I sneak stevia in those.

I got approved by my doctor for a vegan protein, I just add that to a strawberry or banana smoothie, with some almond milk and Greek yogurt, and it's like a whole meal replacement if your running late or in a hurry. If I don't add in my protein, it's chocolate so it doesn't taste good with all fruits, I'll use fresh bananas and frozen mixed berries (they last longer and help keep ur smoothie nice and cold) with a splash of OJ and Vanilla Greek yogurt and it tates like something from Jamba Juice. I just like to mess around with it. If you like avocados I can look for this avocado smoothie recipe for you. When I was training for a physique competition I was drinking those and they are really yummy. I just can't remember it off the top of my head. I would love to add in more veggies but I haven't been able to stomach them since the first trimester. I really want to invest in a juicer. MMM.

I think a support group is a great idea. I've read a lot of us are scared of weight gain, not being able to get it off, have body dismorphia issues, and are over or under weight. I would love getting help and support and giving as much as I know. Fitness and eating healthy are so important, and I know first hand how easy it is to fall off.

Glad you're getting back on track. :D

You doing Vega shakes? I looooved that brand when I was Vegan. I drank Shakeology up until I was pregnant but I'm not allowed to anymore because of the Vitamin A. Boooooo. I miss it so much. So good for the poops!

I'm using Puredge Complete Vegan. I think your brand probably tastes better. I definitely can't mix this one up in just almond milk or water like my old protein shakes haha. My BF surprised me with it so I'm gonna finish it and maybe look into the ones your talking about. I can't wait to get back to supplements and preworkouts, I miss those so much...preworkout mixes were also awesome for the poops!

@tayzav They have it at Whole Foods! I'm not sure if it's safe for pregnancy or not.. I've switched over to eggs/yogurt/string cheese for protein. Vega was developed by triathlete Brendan Brazier!

Here's a picture of him for "good measure." :D

  • Any recs on a decent juicer? I have a standard cuisine art blender, but I can't recall if it juices. (I know nothing of juicers)

  • I need to eat better due to my GD.  I'm enjoying my egg muffins in the morning for a quick grab and go breakfast.  Basically it's an omelette baked in a muffin tin.  Quiche (crustless or regular) would also work well if you slice it ahead of time.  Breakfast is my most difficult meal.  I'll check into the carb counts on some of the smoothie recipes above eventually.

    Banana Nutella Smoothie
2-4 tbsp of Nutella (add to taste)
    1 banana
1/2 cup of milk, Greek yogurt, soy, or almond, whatever your preference is.
    Ice

    Avocado Smoothie
    1/2 Avocado
    1 Large Banana
    Almond Milk to taste
Ice (b/c a smoothie is better cold)

Yes this!  The banana nutella smoothie was all I could stomach when pregnant with DS in the first trimester.  I also went right to them with this pregnancy.  So good. I'm also a fan of a mixed berry smoothie.  Lots of vitamins and fiber.
  • I could definitely do the Avocado smoothie without worry about being outside my carb limit.

Have you had the Dark Chocolate Dreams Peanut Butter? It's got a lot less sugar than Nutella and it's DELICIOUS. I eat it with apples and carrots because I'm a weirdo.

I love my Omega! I haven't used it to make any of the other stuff but it's super easy to clean after use and the juice keeps in the fridge for a couple days.

  • ^^^I LOVE that brand. I used to eat a variety of their peanut butter all the time.  I swear they used to make one kind with mini chocolate chips in them and I can't find it anymore (not on their corproate site either).

I love that company. There's even a peanut butter "cafe" in NYC where they make sandwiches. Uh-mazing. Justin's is effing delicious, too. If you need chocolate hazelnut butter their's is significantly healthier. <3

Oh yes, I know how to get rid of them. I am the creepy internet =) haha.  I do this for a living... literally.  I'm the one serving those creepy ads (not for Amazon, but another company).  You would be amazed (Read: slightly horrified) what we ecommerce marketers can do.
  • @Elyse1384 Ooh! Cool job!!

I've started doing SEO/Facebook marketing for the restaurant I work at. It's totally creepy/amazing. We can target anniversaries, people who moved from their hometowns and live far away, specific hobbies... I hate to admit I kind of love it.
  • @tayzav You had me at Nutella!

    I'm def trying these out!

I love our Vitamix!! It keeps all the contents of whatever you're juicing so that you get all the nutrients. It's also very easy to clean.

Bringing up this old post because @JLW0504 I found this at Safeway, along with one that had mangos. I thought I would give it a try since I like frozen fruit to cool down my smoothie instead of a lot of ice, and it's really good. Fast and easy. Thought maybe you'd be interested. ;)
