How are you ladies setting up your registry - doing research beforehand? There are so many options and it's a bit overwhelming!

I have done research on some of my items like the car seat/stroller/big items and then other stuff, I am an online person so most of my registry was created online...I like go category by category and view items by their "ratings highest to lowest". I was a nanny a year ago so a lot of the things I am registering for are things that they had for their babies because I used them and liked them so much! Somethings, you will just have to see what works for your baby like paci's and bottles. Some babies just like certain things!

ETA: I registered at 2 separate places (babies r us and target with a few things off of amazon) and I found the app/website MyRegistry.com helpful! It combines your different registries into one and that way, guest can see everything at once instead of having to look at different places and it tells you where each item is available. Just as a store registry, guest can look you up by registry # or your name. The MyRegistry.com website will also tell you items that are popular on other registries and gives you the option to add them to yours.

I stated one at Baby's R Us this week online and slowly adding to it. Shower will be at the end of September. I'm asking some of my mommy friends what things they recommend and liked best. It's so overwhelming! There's so many different brands/kinds of everything.

Babies R Us is so expensive! I wish I would have know this for DD I would of registered somewhere cheeper so told people to buy it elsewhere that the BRU one was just a guide.

I did research on the big ticket items, stroller, car seat, crib. and the rest I just used the opinions of other moms. My cousin had a baby a few months before me so she was my #1 resource. SHe was able to let me know what was fluff and what was necessity. There are a few posts on this topic. I'll see if I get the links for you.

I'm registering at Snuggle Bugz just because it has fewer name brands and some interesting options. I guess I'll start that this summer but I do have a stroller and crib picked out.

I started a registry at amazon however I'm having a hard time filling it. This is our third baby and I know we don't need half the stuff we bought or received for the other 2. I'm putting all of the big items on it so we can get the 15% off coupon towards the end and buy it all at once a little cheaper. We don't plan on having a baby shower so I'm mainly using it to keep track of what we want and what we still need to buy. I'll be sharing with just family.

I am registering mainly at Amazon because I find the prices to be a little better. I am going to start a small registry at Target for those who don't like to online shop. I do a little at a time because it is so overwhelming! I ordered the Baby Bargains book so hopefully that will help get me going.

We will be registering at BBB, Target and BRU. BRU and BBB will have duplicate stuff mainly because alot of my family do not access to a BBB close by but alot of my friends do. We'll be setting up all three mostly online but going to BBB to look at stuff to get our ideas and so DH can see everything.

I made a registry online with Babies'r'us. I did some research. I watched a bunch of youtube videos of moms talking about products they like. Honestly, I did this when I was sick in bed weekend after weekend during my first trimester. I don't know if I would have had the patience otherwise. After I finished the Babies'r'Us registry I checked to see if the items were cheaper on Amazon. Some of them were and some of them were not so I made another registry on Amazon and switched some of the items over. Once again, being bed ridden gave me the necessary patience....

Bringing back up this post cuz I don't think it's necessary for me to start another. I was just wondering if there's anything inappropriate to register for? I was going through more cribs this morning when I had mentioned to my BF that I found one I liked but it wasn't at babies r us, where I registered us. He was almost offended that I would have put that on there if possible. Are there certain things we should just purchase on our own? I want to buy it ourselves but I probably would have put it on if they had the one I liked. Is that rude?

Someone here turned me on to Gearapalooza (wish I could remember who), and my SO & I are attending the one in Michigan. We're using it to get some freebies & ideas on what to register for, because neither of us are really sure where to start.

Could someone please fill me in on the etiquette guidelines for registering? Like, is it considered rude to register for big ticket items (crib, stroller, carseat, etc)? @tayzav and @CarrieOct15 I don't consider it rude to register for them. But make sure you have a good price range. Cheap items for those who dont have the extra. Try to keep in mind all price ranges. Lots of times the grandparents are willing to go together on strollers and cribs. That's how we got our stroller with DD1 (SMIL and MIL)

ETA plus you can get them discounted if no one buys them for you.

That's basically what my mom said when I asked her. She told me to absolutely register for big ticket items, because friends/coworkers/etc. might want to chip in together for something big. Thinking of registering for a carseat, stroller, bassinet, and glider/rocker. Registering is a little out of my comfort zone, because I'm not one to ask for stuff.

There is a browser addon that allows you to add items from any store to your Amazon registry. I believe you still get your 10 - 15% off on them if no one purchases them. I've registered at Amazon and I've been asked by my mother to also register at either Target or WalMart for those that don't do online shopping.

I've already bought a crib, a dresser, a stroller, and 2 infant carseats.... my mom told me yesterday, "you know, you might want to leave things for a registry because you'll probably have a baby shower." I also hate to ask for things and I didn't have friends that stepped up to the plate to throw me a bridal shower so I guess I just wanted to be prepared for the possibility of not having a baby shower. The planner (or nester?) in me was not about to wait until the 8th or 9th month to buy big ticket items if no one else did. Just sayin, I can relate.

I think it's fine to put big ticket items on a registry but you should know that a lot of cribs take a long time to come. Ours was supposed to take 12-15 weeks, so you might want to order that yourself

I'm registered at Amazon as well. I spent weeks researching and building my registry. This is my first so i spent a lot of time figuring out what the must have items are, researching reviews/brands and making sure I had everything covered.

We registered at Amazon and Target. We did a mix of small and big ticket items. Since my shower is back home, most of our big and/or expensive stuff is through Amazon that way I don't have to try and get them home on a plane. I also heard that its good to put bigger stuff on the registries, just so you can see what all you still need/want to purchase before and after a shower.

We registered on BBB and a local specialty spot called Genius Jones! The former is for our friends and the latter is for ourselves and for family who flat-out told me they wanted to buy a big ticket item. I put everything on the registries even if we plan on buying certain things ourselves for the completion discount.

Our shower is the end of September and I'm starting to register now. I'm slowly adding things as I research and modifying it. They will probably send out invites at the end of August so looking to have it done by then.

We are going to gearapalooza also.

You can put those big ticket items on there. Even if no one buys them you can get a % off after. I wouldn't go putting a 70" smart TV though lol

I don't have exact dates for my showers, but we're looking at late September/early October. I'm going to start registering soon after my 20 week appt, after I get a second gender confirmation (MH is still skeptical about the early ultrasound situation, bless his heart). I had also planned on taking MH to register, but one of my good friends, who has an eight week old baby, was telling me that she took a couple of girls who recently had babies (I'm a FTM) instead of her SO. MH is supportive of whichever way I decide to do it, but right now, I'm still not sure.

Maybe go on a trip with the girls to get an idea of what you need and a second one with your SO or have your SO come along with you and the ladies.

Thanks @VexyMommy. That's definitely an idea. I would love for MH to be involved since we are in this together (and very excited, btw!), but he admittedly knows even less than I do and knows that I have at least done research and talked to mommy friends about what products are best. Thanks for the advice!
