Worried About Being Physically Active-FTM

Hi i know i probably sound crazy but i am a first time mom (6 weeks) and I am worried about being physically active, like running, scrubbing the house (no chemicals), moving things (we are moving in two weeks and fiance works nights), sex, stretching.....i must sound crazy. We had a very early suspected m/c a few years ago and now im hyper vigilante. Sometimes when i stretch my tummy feels too tight and i stop right away thinking i might "jar the baby and risk a m/c".

Anyone else feel like this?? We are waiting on a doctors app right now. Am i being too overboard and what is safe?

Thanks mamas!!

  • Have you called the nurses line at your OB? They can usually answer these questions until you see the doctor. I am high risk due to several factors and am on complete pelvic rest (Dr. literally told me to not allow ANYTHING in my vagina until she sees me again) and to limit physical activity and not lift anything over 10 lbs. But as for "jar the baby and risk a m/c" that this very unlikely. They baby is super tiny and very well protected so normal activities shouldn't be a problem. I know the general advice is to not start anything that you weren't doing before, i.e. don't start training for a marathon if you weren't a runner, etc.

  • If you did it before you got pregnant you can do it while pregnant. Plus your baby is super time and nestled down below your pelvic bone so its very well protected. I do think you should avoid lifting a piano but scrubbing your tub is fine and avoiding physical activity will only make pregnancy hard on you body. So until your doctor say other wise take a deep breath and tell your self you got this and try not to over think it.
  • No, I still do all of these things. If my body tells me to stop in someway, I do.

You can absolutely lift heavy things and clean with chemicals. Make sure you stop if your body is telling you to and make sure you're cleaning in a well ventilated area.

  • At this stage in the game I would keep doing what you normally do unless there is some reason to be concerned and your doctor has told you specifically to not do something.  I know it's scary at first b/c it's new but don't stop living b/c you've got a little baby in there :)

  • Thanks ladies!
  • Yup as the others said, just keep doing what you were doing before. Some things will be harder as your stomach gets bigger so take advantage of your agility now.

It is okay to keep doing what you normally do! Unless you're high risk, those things won't hurt the baby :) Most miscarriages are because the chromosomes didn't come together properly and have nothing to do with your activities. But always listen to your body. It'll tell you when you need to stop or slow down :)
  • I was like this my first time. Now I lift my 30 lb toddler safely and still workout as well as my normal routines and sex. Unless told not to you should life a relatively normal life.

Mom of one adorable little boy and excited to do this again.
