It might not just be "pregnancy brain"--Hypothyroid/B12 PSA

Short story: If you have hypothyroidism, ask your dr to check your B12. Low B12 and hypothyroidism frequently go together and have similar symptoms.

Longer version: I just started seeing a new endocrinologist, and when she ordered bloodwork to check my TSH, she also ordered a check of my B12 levels. Apparently, hypothyroidism and B12 malabsorption are frequently seen together. My TSH #s were perfect, but my B12 was really, really low. She asked if I'd had trouble focusing or remembering stuff, and I said yes, but I attributed it to growing a human! Not so! Low B12 is likely why I've been feeling so sleepy and forgetful. I got a shot of B12 today, and I'm scheduled for another one next week. I'm suppose to take 2000 mg under the tongue everyday from now on. She said I'd start feeling more like my normal self within 24 hours!

  • Update us on how this works! :)

I don't have hypothyroidism, but this B12 stuff seems like a more common problem in society in general. They are always saying it's good for stress. Could be more benefits

  • I am glad you posted this! I am sorry that you had to go through it though. My dad was just recently diagnosed with low b12 levels. At first we thought he had a stroke because he went numb on the left side, had trouble moving, trouble thinking etc. we got him to the doc and they found he had almost 0 b12 in his system. The docs said that this is a very common problem. So ladies get your b12 checked if you feel funky.
