February 2016 Moms

Any working moms going to school?

I am due 2/19 with baby #2... My son just turned 7 in April. I am currently working full time as a labor and delivery nurse on nights and will be starting a full time Family Nurse Practitioner program in August. I'm crazy, I know! I plan on dropping way down at work once baby is born and clinicals start! When my son was 2, I was working 30+ hours and going to nursing school full time so I have faith in myself but I am still TERRIFIED and worried about my sanity! Lol

Re: Any working moms going to school?

  • That's a lot to have on your plate at once! Wow! Technically I work and go to school, but my work is just running an Etsy shop and I get to choose my hours and work at my pace so I don't think it really counts. ;) School I do full time.

Good luck! I can't imagine trying to juggle all of that and two kids!

I work full time (40 hours a week) and am in grad school full time. I finish my classes in December but then have to start a year of field work. I'm going to take a leave of absence from December to May and start up my interning in June! And I have a 3 year old daughter. It is incredibly stressful, but hopefully worth it in the end.

I teach full time, but am currently working towards my masters. This is our first baby. I am taking classes all summer plus going to conferences every other week for work. I have been horribly sick, I can't imagine what it would be like if school was in session. I feel for you!
  • I work full time and study full time, feeling a little stressed about it all but I'm just chipping away as much as I can!
  • I work full time and am studying for the CPA exam about 20 hours a week. If I pass my test on July 31 then I will be done, if I fail then who knows when I will be done.

  • That's a lot on your plate!

I work full-time and I'm wrapping up my grad school program...will be done in 3 weeks--YIPPEEE! It's been challenging w/ having DD and since this first trimester is kicking my butt, it's been tough to get my head in the game.
DD born Feb. 2010. BFP 5/25/15, EDD 2/4/16!

  • I decided I wanted to finish my graduate degree prior to getting pregnant but I still have one class left. Luckily it won't be until the fall and I should feel much better by then. I'm lucky I work from home and set my own hours too. I will probably cut back about 5 hours a week while finishing my last class.

  • I was technically supposed to finish my Marketing and Finance degrees in May, but I will instead be finishing Marketing in December and hopefully coming back to finish Finance at a later time! And I'll be starting my full time job in June so it worked out well that I will have 3 months to settle in since I'm a FTM :)

I was really telling myself that it would be best to try for baby when I was close to finished with school, but here I am, in my first trimester and haven't started my graduate degree yet. I just had the baby fever so bad! I keep telling myself that by the time I am off of maternity leave, I will only have one year left and by that time I will not be working full time. Gotta have a positive, can do attitude I guess lol.
  • OP, I think we are cut from the same cloth! I am due Feb 18 with my second. My son is 4. I am a full time nurse in the ER and will finish FNP school next May! We will have to stay in touch!

  • I working full time as a special ed teacher. I have a 2 year old and one due Feb 26. I currently am working on my masters and I can only take one class at a time.

O and we just brought a house so moving in a month.

    Good luck mom's
  • You go! I work full time nights as a phlebotomist in the hospital , night shift is no joke! I give u credit just for that! But you know it's all about organizing your time. I was suppose to start my program in August but they cancelled it due to staffing issues . I took it as a sign because a day later I found out I was pregnant. You can totally do this!
  • I work full time and go to school part time. I start my senior year in fall with three semesters left before graduation. Good luck!
  • I'm not sure if this counts, but I work full-time and am doing an online bootcamp to learn computer programming.

    Very impressed with you ladies!

I am attempting to study for the CPA exam as well. Unfortunately, I do not have any sections passed. I have procrastinated since 2012 when I graduated, not its time to hunker down. I have taking two sections previously, but I didn't put the effort in. I am just now about to study for Regulation. I am aiming at getting 3/4 by February, but I know my fall busy season is going to be crazy. Good luck on finishing. Do you work at a public firm? @bredoll Prayers your way.

No, I work for a private company doing property management accounting. I passed FAR and REG both on my first try (75 on Reg) and then failed BEC and AUD my first try. I passed BEC on my second try which was the day I got my BFP. FAR will expire on 11/2 if I don't pass Audit either in July or October and I know I will have NO motivation to re-take AUD for a fourth time and FAR being that far along. Good luck to you too @BlySoto! It can be done, you just need motivation.

  • I'm a full time day shift ICU nurse also going to school part time for FNP!! I've been more lurking occasionally right now because of work + school + nausea like a bitch that makes me feel like lying in bed 24/7.
