Can't sleep!!!

I'm 32 weeks and for the last week, I just cannot sleep. I'm either too hot, too cold, have to pee, or just plain uncomfortable. This lack of sleep paired with a busy 2 year old and a full time job is killing me! Any suggestions on how to get a good night's rest?

You just described my entire life right now. Honestly, I just take it a day at a time. Luckily, I have an amazing husband who does all he can to help me it's still very hard. My body pillow helps but only a little. Count down to maternity leave starts now :)

  • I feel ya , every night sucks - I sleep completly naked now because I'm so hot , I set my air on 70 before bed and the air does not cool down my bedroom- I toss and turn trying to find a comfortable position- find one finally then realize I have to pee again- this all repeats itself and before I know it I hear "mommmmmmmy" and rise and shine time to start the day! I unfortunately don't have any suggestions , just sympathy!

  • Wait till your next baby is sleeping through the night. :) Honestly, I really don't know. DD has been waking up really early every morning lately and occasionally at night, the dogs keep waking us up, I have to pee at least once or twice a night, and I have started having the dreaded night leg-cramp issues despite downing ridiculous numbers of bananas and water. DD started sleeping through the night most of the time when she was between 15 and 16 months old, so I'm hoping by Christmas of 2016 I might feel rested again...

Everyone sleeps through the night except me - but oddly enough after a few sleepless nights I have ONE fairly goodnight of sleep! Then it's back to square one. I want a new mattress, hah! I don't think that will solve the problem. Just sympathizing too... Hang in there, before you know it your #2 will be sleeping through the night and so will you! Unless you decide to go for 3!

Things to try but don't work for me lately: progressive muscle relaxation, reading a book or magazine not nook/kindle, hot tea, warm bath. Or just get up for an hour- eat a healthy snack, watch a quick show, work on a hobby and try again.

Edit - because I don't want to make another post... Every night, once I start to get some sleep, at least one of the dogs wakes me up... Despise the dogs lately :( sometimes wish we could give them away =\
  • Right there with you. Up every 1.5-2 hours for no reason at all. Tried Benadryl, Unisom and Valerian Root, nothing keeps me asleep longer than 2 hours! I feel like I'm already in baby's 4 month sleep regression where id do anything for a 4 hour stretch of sleep!!!
  • I can't believe this worked for me but I made a playlist on iTunes with relaxing music like what's played when you get a massage, my wedding song, etc. I only play it when going to sleep at night and now my brain seems to be trained cause I rarely make it past the second song.
  • Baby girl is a major night owl and her hard rolls and kicks keep me awake sometimes. Heartburn loves to kick in when I lay down. And I have to get up and pee a couple times. And usually my cat wants water or something lol. I swear I become immune to every sleeping medicine that I try. It works for a couple weeks then has no effect. Then really early in the morning hubby gets up for school and my stomach starts growling. It's always something.
  • Yep I'm hearing you all... If it's not the toddler, the bladder, the neighbours, the DH snoring, or the hip pain waking me, it's just plain old insomnia for no apparent reason.
I think I made the following suggestions on another thread somewhere...these are all things that have helped me in different circumstances. Mindfulness/meditation apps to help relax, a bit of exercise each day, ear plugs, a glass of warm milk, reading a few pages of a book in low light, sleeping in a separate bed to escape a snoring or restless DH...

I'm so desperate to sleep on my stomach again! That's my comfort position when I can't sleep...
  • Try using natural lavender oil. Rub it all on your feet, on the bottom, between your toes, the tops and on your ankles. You don't need a ton of it. Also, try to drink water/liquids through the entire day to keep you hydrated and start laying off at least an hour before bed time keeping it minimal. This will help reduce the number of times you have to pee at night. I hope you can get some rest soon.
