Unknown sickness & terrified

I'm not entirely sure if there will be any help that can come from this topic, but I am getting desperate.
Let me start from the beginning.
I started feeling I'll Tuesday of last week (so exactly a week from today). Running a 101.7 temperature, crazy body aches, and chills to top it off. Out of fear for my baby (because of the fever) I went to a local ER here near my house.
The ER doctor told me it was a minor viral infection, and it looked like I might have the beginning of a UTI. He prescribed me an antibiotiv, gave me a shot of morphine and zophran, and sent me on my way.
The following day (Wednesday), I was unable to get my fever down at all, all day and my throat began to swell significantky, along with my left lymph node in my neck. Again, out of fear for my munchkin, I returned to the ER, where I was given an IV and Tylenol and sent on my way. Basically, I was told there was nothing they could do for me because of the baby. (Because medications are now limited).
The week continues and my throat has swollen to the point where I am unable to eat basically anything and can barely force myself to drink water. On top of that, I have ulcers that have formed on my tonsils as well as other places in my mouth and on my tongue. I also have blisters on my bottom lip (which I presume are from having a fever over 100 for over a week). My gums are now completely inflamed, as well as the roof of my mouth. Hoping for, maybe, a different opinion, I went to a different ER, where I was given another antibiotic to take and told nothing can be done by anyone other than my OB.
I have tried to get in with my OB, but due to only being 6 weeks along, she refuses to see me until mid July, plus she is all full and can't fit me in anywhere even if she wanted to.
I'm at a loss.
I started googling my symptoms ( which I know, is always an awful idea), but I was left with nowhere else to turn.
I feel like I have been left without a voice and I'm having to try to fix the problem myself.
Everyone has turned me away, minimizing my symptoms, and telling me to wait them out.
Let me also note, I have only gone to the ER one other time in my life, and it was for an emergency appendectomy, so I don't resort to emergency medical care routinely.
Now, last night I started throwing up, and have continued to this morning.
I don't understand how I am supposed to wait the symptoms out when I can't eat, or now hold anything down, because the baby isn't getting any nutrients.
I am confused and extremely worried about my munchkin
This is my first kiddo, and I'm basically doing it on my own, which I suppose has raised my anxiety to my symptoms. However, I have no idea what to do. Everywhere I have gone, they minimize and don't listen to me fully, and I can't get into an OB sooner than the middle of July.

Advice?

Re: Unknown sickness & terrified

  • Have you tried making an appointment with your regular family practice doctor?  I'd think that might be a good place to start.

I agree with pp. I would get in with your regular doctor. The ER is only meant to put out fires really not provide ongoing medical care. Typically ob's don't see you for non pregnancy related conditions. Hope you are feeling better soon!

  • If I were you, I would go to the hospital and advocate to not be discharged till they figure out what is wrong with you. I understand why you are so concerned and frustrated. Fingers crossed you find a medical professional that can figure it out. Keep us posted!

  • Lurker here - have you talked to the nurse at the OBs office?  It's been experience that front desk may tell you someone is booked up, but when you talk to the nurse and explain what's going on, sometimes they can fit you in??
  • I am so sorry - but I agree with PP that you should call or find a primary care doc and see them.

  • Sorry you're going through this. I agree that you should contact a doctor that you have an established relationship with. If he/she cannot see you, I would start looking for another OB. If this OB is unwilling to be flexible in her schedule or set you up with another provider when you have an urgent concern, that would be a pretty big red flag for me. Just a thought:) My family practice dr actually delivers my babies and sees my kiddos, and he is very upfront that his pregnant moms and babies come first. If he has to cancel on me for my physical or sore throat for a mom/baby, he will. And I respect it.
