Size question.

So I have packed my hospital bag and tried on all of my new Pj's for the occasion. Right now they are tight and pulling. But I am thinking that I will be a little smaller after the baby is born. So my question is... Should I get what fits me now or is it ok that it is a little tight becaue I will be a little smaller by the time I put them on in the hospital?

  • I had severe drops in blood pressure with my epidurals which required massive amounts of fluid to stabilize. I was larger and weighed more after both my babies because of all the swelling. So I wouldn't count on being smaller.

  • I was also pretty swollen afterwards. My stomach was noticeably smaller (I was pretty small pre-pregnancy so my tummy just seemed to disappear), but my legs, hips, etc.. were all still larger and I just had overall water weight gain from the swelling. Honestly, I still wear the same pajama pants (with drawstring tie waists) and large shirts to bed nights both pre-pregnancy and during pregnancy. I'm actually wearing a pair of pants right now that I've had since before my daughter was born, and I'm pretty sure I brought these to the hospital with me when she was born and they will probably go with me again this time... I'd aim for something loose fitting and comfy regardless.
  • I'm gonna bring yoga pants and a tank top or t shirt for my going home outfit. I want to be comfortable and I'm just going from the hospital to the car to five minutes down the street.
  • My hospital checklist said clothes that fits comfortably in the 7th month so I packed pjs that fit comfy now. Id rather them be loose than tight.

For me this was about right. I was a bit smaller after birth, but probably still was about my 6 months pregnant size.
  • New pjs for the occasion? Girl rock the yoga pants or hospital gown. Trust me.

Ha! This. I would be comfortable with what fits me now. I wouldn't personally go up a size at this point.

Yeah I'd say post pregnancy the stomach was the size of 5-6 months pregnant. Now the hips/butt/thigh... Those aren't gonna shrink while you're in the hospital lol. So wear what's comfortable now, if it's tight on your lower half now, it will be in the hospital too and you'll have huge pads and stuff to deal with as well. Go loose and comfy or yoga pants

  • Think HUGE pads and tight fitting pants- not a cute look. So I'd be careful with the leggings/ tight fitting yoga pant.
  • I wore yoga pant leggings last time. I reccomend packing black undies and pants.. Anything light colored will most likely get stained even days after birth.

  • Also I was at my pre pregnancy size/ weight by the time I left the hospital so I'm glad I packed stretchy pants.

  • I was pretty swollen and bloated after labor, so I wouldn't count on it. I also loathe anything even remotely snug, particularly during pregnancy, so I would definitely pack something more forgiving.
  • You'll probably be puffy after birth. I looked and felt like a marshmallow person. I wouldn't bring anything that is tight right now.
  • I have just worn my maternity Jeans home every time.  It's not like you can't change when you get home.  While some people, especially those who nurse have uterus' that shrink back quicker, most often you will still be larger than normal and uncomfortable.  After I had my first, I saw several women leave the OB unit looking like they were still 9 months pregnant.  I recommend stretchy waist bands and clothes you don't care about staining.

  • Everyone keeps saying loose and comfy pants, but I thought the nurses would be all up in your lady bits to clean and make sure everything is healing. Wouldn't a hospital gown or loose pajama shift be easier? FTM so I'm asking, not suggesting :)
  • I will be rocking the hospital gown until my last day. I remember after my c-section, I could barely pull my underwear down for the bathroom let alone a pair of pants. No clue what it's like for the natural birth moms though! I do have a loose shirt, loose robe, & loose shorts for my last day though. My granny got them for me at my shower! God bless her, bc I know I would've been lost finding something comfy enough for my c-section that I already own.
  • I won't be able to walk for a day so hospital gowning I'll be until I can shower. But night just have a moo moo type thing. Sounds horrendous, but it's cute....I promise! Lol

They only checked me for the first 12 or so hours after birth. That said I had a fairly easy vaginal delivery with only a few stitches.

This time I plan to bring a gown (like you described) for after the first 24 hours. I just feel more human not in the hospital gown lol. I picked that because to me it's more comfy than pants. And, I can pull it up under the covers to avoid some staining. Then loose pants to go home in.

  • My first baby was 8lbs 15oz and when I got home and weighed myself I had lost 9.5lbs. I'm probably wearing pajamas home lol!
