Random items for baby your SO insists you need?

We went to pick up an infant tub for LO over the weekend. I was all set to get one of those $20 plastic blue ones everyone's parents used to have, and hubby goes "No, we need one with a sprayer." Um, why? "We just do." Okay then, haha. I didn't really care because we were using gift cards lol it was just amusing, especially since he's usually all about price comparisons and "do we REALLY need this" discussions. But of course all that flies out the window when it comes to this princess!

Anybody else's SO swear there was something they HAD TO HAVE for baby, even if WE know we really don't need it?

Re: Random items for baby your SO insists you need?

  • Lol I have the opposite problem, as much as my SO is completely excited and smitten that he's having a baby girl, he is also clueless as a first time dad and because I already have a son from a previous relationship he is letting me take the lead on anything to do with baby! Lmao. Sometimes I wish he'd just say o I think this will make things easier for me if we got this or at least was a wee bit more into it. But I'm sure once she is here he will learn what works best for him. Guys are funny sometimes eh! :p

  • @audi681 Haha! If this baby was a boy I can so imagine my H being the same way! He is always pointing out the little suits and bow ties the kids wear at church. He's not as interested in little girl clothes, fancy that!

  • My DH is pretty much happy as long as we have diapers for LO. This is our second girl so we have plenty stuff. He hasn't even thought about needing anything else. When we did our registry for our first DD he kinda just stood there looking quite uninterested. I was wishing he had an opinion about anything.
  • My husband actually encouraged me to get a co-sleeper. He also has been bringing up the idea of a post-partum doula and encouraging me to think about it.
  • My DH is the opposite. We're going bare minimum for this baby (after knowing what we used/didn't use with our other 2) and yet when I do pick up an item or two he is STILL asking, "Are you SURE we need that??" Le sigh.

With DS he wanted/demanded/required a video monitor, mind you we lived in a 2 BR apt at the time. I have admitted (even to him) that I love the video feature. It's so convenient.

Otherwise he didn't care what was bought.

  • @vineheart137 is this his first? We were like that with our first daughter too! We got that stupid tub with the sprayer. Such a waste of money. We went back and bought the blue plastic one with a sponge insert and called it a day. It's cute that he's so excited though. Let him have this moment. But that tub is garbage lol!

Haha yes! She's the first for both of us but I have a lot more experience around babies than he does. I'm waiting for the day he goes "Why did we get this tub again?" lol.

  • Our car seat/ stroller system.. Almost identical but one was this years model and one was last years model. $100 difference but he insisted we needed this years model. Lol.. Ok honey. Whatever you say ;)
  • Just the travel system. He really liked the handle and inflatable wheels. I liked the color so it was easy. He tried to say our daughter needed this white, lacy bassinet but I convinced him it was going to be used for such a short time so we didn't need it. His first, my third.
  • My SO was picky about which stroller we got, He used to ride BMX and said we needed a real tire with bearings and whatnot. He did pick a good stroller though, we live in a smaller town with a ton of hills and gravel and that thing will roll smoothly over anything. We won't be those parents struggling through the grass with those little plastic wheels.  <:-P
  • My husband is mostly the opposite. He is constantly asking "do we really need that?" We have tried to be fairly minimalist but it's kind of hard as a FTM.

The one thing he has insisted on is that the larger items we purchase in gender neutral colors so that if we have a boy in the future we won't have to buy all new things.
  • pacifer wipes! ugh i totally dont believe in those and my husband went and put them on the registery and someone bought them...
  • Mine is the opposite just like some of the other PPs. We're waiting until after the shower to see what else is left that we need to purchase on our own, but right now it's about $500 worth of stuff if nothing else is bought off the registry. I thought that was pretty reasonable considering what we need but DH was like "whoa whoa whoa". I don't think he understands how much things cost....
  • My hubby insists that we get a BOB stroller because "it's like having 4 wheel drive". He wants to take our son fishing and hiking in it.

I have a BOB and it is love. That is one purchase I wouldn't regret at all.

  • My husband just cared about the stroller and car seat. We did a registry on amazon but went to stores so he could test out the stroller. He didn't show much interest in anything else until it arrived and then you would of thought it was Christmas and all the items were for him lol. He was so excited to put everything together and test it out for our little boy :) lol
  • I was totally convinced that a convertible car seat would be just fine but DH convinced me to get an infant one.  One said things like, "Well, what if you run an errand and the baby falls asleep on the way?  You don't want to wake them up!"  I thought it was kind of sweet.  We are pretty much minimalists as far as "stuff" goes and have received a lot of hand-me-downs so it hasn't really been up to either of us what we've got!
  • Yeah so this sounds weird but guns. Guns and fishing rods. Were huge outdoors people but I think we have some time before we need Amy of that stuff ha ha. He's so excited to teach our little boy all that stuff.

Mine too @juliekay25. I convinced him to hold off until baby boy could pick it out with him.

  • DH has been in awe at things we have gotten. Fascinated by the BOB stroller and has shown everyone who has been over how easy it folds up. He can't wait until we get the Mamaroo. And he has started being able to recognize Britax car seats and BOB strollers when we are out or when watching TV hahaha

I'm the compulsive buyer here, I don't even like going shopping with him because he's like "are you sure you need an electrical and a microwave steriliser?" But he likes to buy clothes, around Christmas he bought Christmas sweaters for all of us and got a cute pink one for the baby, I was about 7-8 weeks and we didn't even know we were having a girl! And at 13 weeks the ultrasound tech told us she was 90% sure it was a girl and after driving me home he drove to the mall and bough 2 large bags of super girly clothes! ... Weirdly, he also loves buying clothes for me and my son, but he weirdly buys clothes for himself.

I don't use pacifiers but I wanted to get them for bottles and toys when my son was born and my mom told me "when you were born we picked everything from the floor and put it in our mouths to clean at, while smoking and drinking wine, so trust me when I tell you those are not necessary at all, bottled water will be enough" I can't remember one day that I thought "damn it! I really need one of those wipes right now!" So I guess she was right haha
  • Just a teddy bear. He insisted that we buy the baby a teddy bear, and that we give it to him in the hospital when he's born. He said that's when he got his first bear and that it's going to be a tradition. It's so sweet.. Mr Teddy is hanging out the side pocket of our hospital bag just waiting to meet his new best friend. =3

  • I narrowed our stroller choices down to three before I took DH to try them out. He spent an hour trying to knock them all over and ramming them into things to "test their integrity". He of course picked the most expensive one ... Something about the wheels? Now he shows it off to people who visit. That was pretty much the first and last baby item he has shown any interest in. He cracks me up.

i just love this post. my husband is trying to come up with a baby excuse for buying a ps4 and a new video game. he's adorable. but on a real note, we bought a lot of our things from amazon.com and he is meticulous about consumer reviews and ratings. I cant take him to babies r us because he will nix anything pink or girly. (we are having a girl)
