Freaking the f out

My doctors office has this online thing called a patient portal where they post all of your test results, things gone over at ob appts etc. I was just on my looking at it from my last appt and under problems it listed a fetal central nervous malformation. This has never been in my chart before and it does not have a date next to it as it was diagnosed. At my last appt everything went wonderful and the sonogram tech never mentioned any issues she saw or was concerned about. I just randomly saw this so of course you can imagine how I'm feeling. I've had so many issues with my doctors office thus far and just have been afraid to switch being already 30 weeks. I'm praying to God that this is some kind of clerical error. I called the on call service and left a message for my doctor now I just sit here and wait.

  • Ugh that's the worst. While it's very likely to be an error, waiting to KNOW is torture. Try to read some fun baby stuff or look at cute outfits or watch tv or sleep.

  • Oh wow. That's why those "online charts" are not always so great. I'm kind of glad my Dr. Got rid of that option. There were a lot of errors and unnecessary patient freak outs. FX they get back to you ASAP! I know it's hard to do but try not to stress too much until you know.

  • I agree, try not to stress until you get answers. My mom's reg Dr one time sent her a thing saying she had Stage 3 Kidney disease or something like that....needless to say, it was an error!!
  • Usually they won't release worrisome results via the portal. I used to work for the company that developed one used by most clinics in the country and it's pretty standard to not release 'bad' results....I even trained it that way :). My bet is that it's a mistake! I hope everything turns out OK!
  • I have a portal like this too and my doctor only releases results that are normal or she has discussed with me. Hopefully this is all an unfortunate mistake!
  • My doc also uses patient portal. The nurses told me not to pay attention to my labs as based on nonpregnant #s, I am anemic. But since pregnancy causes changes, I am actually fine. I also found out via that portal that I had a small intrauterine bleed at 7 weeks. I, in a panic, called to ask about it and they told me it was nothing and they hate that these results are posted. The bleed was nothing to worry about and I just ended up more stressed out. I would say your doc will notify you if they feel there are any issues that they need to address. If you do not hear from them, mention it at your next appointment. If they are not worried enough to notify you right away, it is probably nothing. Hope everything works out for you!
  • Omg! This happened to me before with my urologist. I had to go for my kidneys because they kept getting infected with a UTI and other infections and such. I checked some results for a culture they ran and it said kidney transplant wait list on my chart! I was like what the hell are they not telling me! It was a error. Thank goodness!
  • They once listed that I had a cardiac arrithymia! It was a fetal one (and normal! We went to MFM the following day and they said it was baby trying to regulate herself to me before birth. ) however they listed it that I had one and when I went to switch insurance they denied me because I had this arrithymia. The doctors made the error and fixed it, and it was fine (this was several years ago). But things happen. Just wait and see what they say. Thoughts and prayers!
  • My doc uses that as well. I noticed at 20 weeks that it said I had gained like 30 pounds (when I knew I had only gained 17) so I called and had it corrected. I would call and make sure it's not a typo because ESP if you are in a group practice and some doctor or midwife sees that and isn't familiar with your case they could give you wrong information.
  • ^ wss. I just looked at mine, out of curiousity. It's still saying my current medical problems are : abnormal pap with low grade changes, and CIN2.
Nothing mentioned the cervical cancer (tho further in the chart it mentions Carcinoma in situ cin3) OR that I've been cancer free and have had normal papa for 18 months.. Lol. No CIN of any type. I'm going to speak with them to have this corrected as well.. Because it's listed as a current medical problem.. And it's not.
  • I'd be freaked out too!!! But like the other pp's said, it's probably an error if they've never mentioned it before.
  • Definitely some kind of clerical error. The doctor said they put it under neurology so insurance with cover it in full and I wouldn't have to pay out of pocket. Sounds pretty shady to me, but I could care less as long as my baby is healthy. Thank you for the concern though:)
