any breastfeeding moms had to tell their new job they need to pump? How did you tell your boss?? I just got a new job and I don't know how to tell them I need to pump.
I haven't gone back to work yet but when I do I'm just going to talk to my boss in private letting her know I'm currently breast feeding and need a clean / private place to pump while on break & lunches . (since I work retail ) here in California it's apart of a law to let anymoms to pump While on break or lunch in a clean | private room
I work in a hospital as a dietitian so it's probably less awkward for me (really it'd be less acceptable in my position if I told them I wasn't breastfeeding), but I simply emailed my boss with a couple questions in preparation of my return - asking where the pumping locations were, how compensation works (I learned I won't get paid for pumping time, which I kind of expected because I'm a per diem employee), and about storage locations.
Im a teacher and have the summer off right now so its nice when feeding. I will pump during my lunch break. That is the only free time and uninterrupted time i get.
Legally your boss has to allow you the time to pump. Research your rights and then bring it up with him. I'd also have a third party attend the meeting as well.
